How to clean steam iron soleplate ?

:hello: Hi all,

My very expensive Sunbeam suddenly stopped working after 1year of purchasing (still looking for warranty paperwork) and seeing 'if' it did get fixed i still needed an iron in the meantime, so i headed to Kmart and bought a Sunbeam steam iron for $25 to tie me off and 2weeks later the soleplate on this iron now has some hardened residue on it and every time i turn the iron on it smells slightly like it's burning :doh:

and i'm always one to be careful with my iron in keeping it empty when not in use, clean, etc ...

So can anyone tell me how to remove the baked on residue ?? :pray:

Kaz i'd be keeping that one for sure because my General Electric iron i had for exactly 20years was a stainless steel :thumbsup: ... needless to say i still have the ironing board i bought back then going strong, lol fingers crossed :crossfingers:
