Advice on Little ones and Antibiotics

DD has been teething and has just got 2 little chompers, but has also been pulling on one of her ears , and has been sleeping shocking at nightn,anywho..
I thought she may have an ear infection, took her to the Dr today who said ,no both ears were clear, temp 35, but said when he look in mouth/throat that maybe it was a little red and was the begining of an infection and gave me a script for 'amoxolin' (sp) baby antibiotics and said give her this 3 times a day on an empty tummy( not that she ever has an empty tummy with all her boob feeds :) !

Would you give this to your little one? I just am hesitant now coz her ears were fine and he said it 'may' be the start on an infection..

Should i give it anyway? incase? or wait?

what would you do? She is having awful nights waking every hour or so ,and is pulling at her ear but then it could be still teething... what to do what to do.:think:

Has she had any sort of fever? If not I'd be hesitant too. Maybe try panadol/nurofen til at least tomorrow & see if things have changed.
If she's had a fever I'd give the abs. You could always seek a second oppinion if you prefer.

i would hold off a day or two and see what develops. this is what i'm doing with DD at the moment. panadol if she has a temp and see if she improves of deteriorates. i took DD to GP yesterday and he said she had a red throat and slightly pink ears but it was hard to tell if it was viral or bacterial. because GP's are hard to get into, he gave me a script but said to keep up boob milk as often as possible (a great defence/immune fighting "tool"), panadol to keep fever at bay (she has been going over 39 now) and only start the ab's if she gets worse. i am somewhat reluctant to use Ab's at the best of times, and mostly went to make sure the fever wasn't going to become an issue. thankfully with lots of BM and cuddles and sleep, she seeeeems to be doing better today - but then, she didn't really spike a fever til late yesterday and the same day before, so we're watching her and if she seems to get worse, we may use the ab's but i doubt it. definitely wouldn't use them on a "maybe" when she isn't showing signs of throat pain and her ears are clear though

At about 6 months my ds had a throat thing that developed into thrush in his mouth and he wet off his food,well the boob lol,

I wouldnt wait to see what happens, that's what I did and it got worse and more uncomfortable for him, it only took three days and he was back to normal too..... If it is teething it will continue anyway, so just in case... I mean if the dr said it looked red,that probably the start of thrush. It's so common with breastfeeding I didn't know ;)

Yeah i really don't want to give her them if she doesn't need them, i really thought it was something with her ears but they are fine, temp was fine today, which i will keep track of now to make sure it doesn't go up.And i will keep up with the booby feeds as many as she wants ( good excuse for me to sit and do nothing lol)

As nice as the Dr is i see, i think he can tend to just give out things 'just incase'... I have nurafen and panadol here, i gave her nurafen before bed last night and she had a semi better night still woke a lot..

If it was thrush ,wouldn't i have signs on my nipples? I thought you see white spots in bubs mouth as well

ab's won'y help thrush anyway - you'd need something like daktarin gel for that one - if anything, ab's are often a cause of thrush (this a big part of my reluctance to use them - ab's will often kill off normal healthy bacterial flora and let other non-bacterial infections like thrush take hold)
DD has had oral thrush without me having nipple thrush - but i treated us both anyway

I do have one sore nipple ,should i get some cream just in case?
Is this how baby mouth thrush could start off with slightly red throat>?

I would probably hold off on the ABs too. At least you have the script if you need it. With every tooth I cut, I got a raging ear infection.
So just keep going as you are! As for the thought of thrush, I don't think they get a red throat from it, just the white spots in the mouth. Getting either Daktarin or Nilstat drops wouldn't hurt, hope the nasties pack their bags and leave pronto for you guys :hug:
