No nestle - soy formula

I want to be conscious of all the issues with Nestle but wasn't 100% sure which brand to avoid.. can someone help.

I am going to e-mail some formula companies and ask them for SAMPLES of soy formula for me to test DD on due to her allergies.
The MCHN does NOT stock samples anymore and i am not paying $30 for a tin of formula i possibly wont be able to use.

I have seen the thread on SOY formula and have asked questions there regarding it's use but in the meantime was wondering what brands i can go to that are NOT nestle companies.

Do you know what she is allergic to in the diary? Two of mine were allergic to the lactose not milk protein so we use s26 LF. They also have soy and goats milk. The company that produces it is Wyeth, but I think the use GM soy so that may be no good for you.

I am not 100% sure, she has had the skin ***** test done and is not to have ANY dairy at all, she is anaphylactic (sp?) after a reaction to yoghurt.
She is also borderline for nuts & eggs... PITA child :)

ZF, I'm surprised your allergist/doctor didn't offer you a script for an elemental formula, if the allergy is that serious. My best gf's DS had severe allergies to dairy, eggs and nuts and they used an elemental formula (on prescription, and much cheaper, btw) for him until he was older. He grew out of his dairy and egg allergy by about age two.

I don't think they offered anything as she is still fully BF.. i intend to continue to BF her but the Dr wanted me to test her on soy for in cooking and for once she's over a yr old for IF we decide to wean etc.

There is no reaso. You cant use Rice Milk in cooking , there is no need to use formula for cooking.

Have you had to cut dairy out of your diet?

It might be worth getting her re-tested if/when you want to wean, to see if she is still allergic. A dairy allergy is something that a LO can grow out of. Nut allergy is generally with you for life, but dairy could be resolved.

Dr said not to introduce rice milk until after 12mths and to use soy milk in cooking but i wasn't allowed to just test her straight up with soy milk i had to test her allergy with soy formula.. does that make sense?

Rice milk contains no dairy etc. Did he say why not to use it until after 12 mnths? You wouldn't be replacing her BF with milk, only usingit for cooking.

I would be asking again about the rice milk, especially when the first lot of solids are rice based anyway. It's tricky trying to sort out what is best for them.

I have no idea, he said not to introduce it until after 12mths, also not to introduce soy milk as a 'drink' on it's own until after 12mths but for now to test her on soy formula, if she tolerates it then i can use it in cooking for all of us.

My issue at the moment is she wants to eat what we eat, DP would not be interested in breast milk in his dinner :rofl:
I plan on BFing for as long as possible but she's starting to want things like biscuits etc - i buy her dairy free stuff but i much prefer making my own, i'd also like to make some yummy muffins etc for her without dairy products that DD1 can eat aswell.

Yep you can still do that. I used to just take out a small amount of whatever needed it to add EBM to DD's [I actually did it with all the kids, but DD for the longest].

Thats fine for mash etc but BIG things i'm cooking as a whole for a family meal i wont be able to remove her portion, like muffins or cake.

I'd be more inclined to test her for Rice than Soy. Soy isn't the be all and end all and I like it better in cooking anyway!

I've never heard of a child allergic to rice based products, but there are certainly children with problems with soy lecithin.

Yep rice milk .. There isabsolutely no reason soy formula should be used for cooking, what a waste of money!
I would go and see another doctor and get a second opinion.

I make DFree muffins all the time - rice milk and nuttlex swap over easily.
