Very active sleeping baby!

Hey guys,

We are co-sleeping at the moment - but we have the cot attached to the side of the bed in a side car arrangement. It's awesome.

Anyway, DD is rolling around in her sleep like a crazy woman at the moment. I usually have her swaddled with one arm out (ha, we've been in this transition for ages) but am thinking that I might have to stop swaddling her sometime soon as she is rolling around like mad. I woke this morning and she was fully asleep on her tummy!!!! :o
This is a kid who HATES any form of tummy time.

I'm a bit freaked about her sleeping on her tummy, but feel that she is getting herself into that position and even if I gently move her onto her back, she gets herself back onto her side and then tummy again.

I'm noticing too that she is really active in her sleep and moves a lot more than she used to. Is she just processing all those new skills that she's learning in the day time?

Anything I can do? Probably not. Thanks for reading.

oh boy - i remember the first time that DS rolled onto his tummy, DP & i stood over the cot for ages discussing whether or not we should turn him back over or not! i think we even rang his mum to get her opinion :lol: i'm not sure, but i thought the general rule was to stop swaddling once they could roll? i also asked my MCHN about it & she said once they can move to their own preferred position, it's pretty much fine.

and i'd guess that's what she's doing when she's moving around :) lucky she's not actually in the bed with you! :lol:

Run with it hon - you now have a tummy sleeper ;). I remember when DD started doing it at 4 months :o and freaked us out!! She was in sleeping bags already though and we have a Sound & Movement monitor so we only had one sleepless night, lol.

It's time to unswaddle your DD though. She'll probably continue to do it. Often once they find they can roll in their sleep it becomes their preferred position.

We love sleeping bags in our house. DD has a good mix of both Grobags and Dream Bags in .5, 1.0 and 2.5 togs. I always get the Grobags on sale (they're expensive!) but the Dream Bags are well priced just limited in styles and sizes.

PMSL, that's exactly what we did!! We flipped her a couple of times but she just flipped straight back!

:rofl: I remember when my DD slept for more than 4 hours in a row...DH and I did the same thing- wondering if we should wake her up...needless to say we let her sleep...

I also heard that once they can roll and hold there head up it is fine if they roll on their tummies to sleep- but I understand your discomfort with it :)

Yes, as general consensus is, once they do it, there is nothing you can do to stop it. They can get so active around their cot now, so just make sure their is nothing in it to smother up against.

I have one sleep talker and one sleep 'walker'. DD1 started sleep crying/talking about 10months. We thought she was crying but learnt she was actually still asleep, she now yabbers her head off. DD2 sleep 'walks' or as much as a baby can, from about 6 months she has done weird things in her sleep like smiles, waves, sits up has a dance, lays back down, has a chat, plays with her hair and now her new one, signs the word bath (which she learnt last week). To begin with it drove me nuts thinking 'this child just doesnt sleep, until I realised her eyes were shut and if you actually pick her arm up and drop it their isn't any muscle control.

Hehehe, Studymum, that's sooooo cute and funny.

DD smiles a lot in her sleep - and still roots. It's too cute. DH and I joke that she's dreaming about boobie! hehehee.
