Do I reply? quick, HELP please!!!

OK, probably a really silly question :redface: but I need to get this right.

I applied for a couple of jobs yesterday & one of them seems like it qwould be really good for me, I am crossing my fingers I get an interview at least.
I applied online through seek & just got an emailed response back. Pretty generic, didn't use my name or anything, just saying they will be short-listing applicants next week.

So do I reply or not? I feel like it might be polite to reply? but I don't want to seem pestery if it's not necessary? and they know I've read it because they requested a read receipt & I clicked 'yes' without thinking :p

I wouldn't reply, I think you may find its a computer generated response :) as some companies use software to sort resumes that come in from seek etc.

I would go with a very brief reply.

Dear xxxx,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my enquiry. I look forward to hearing from you soon

If they have lots of applicants any thing that makes you stand out in a positive way or look like you have some initiative might make the difference between shortlist and reject pile.

Don't undervalue pester power. I gave a girl an interview because she was pestering me and DH hired her :o

Yes, I would reply as well - it certainly can't hurt. Just something brief as Onyx said. Even if it's computer generated, it won't hurt to have given it a go.

I wouldn't bother replying. One would like to think someone would pay attention to replies but I don't think so. Its standard to have an automatic reply sent to applicants. Good luck :)

No need to reply, it's an automated response that many businesses have in place.

I probably wouldn't, but I do agree with Onyx. My last two jobs I got by cold calling and 'pestering' hehehe

Well, I did it .... I went with the idea that it couldn't hurt, worst case is if it's unnecessary I still look polite, right? What really swayed me was that it asked for a read receipt which suggests that someone is taking notice, you know?
And Onyx, thanks - that was perfect & I used it pretty much word for word :D
