How many people can you have in the theatre while having a c section

Hi just a question can i have my DH and my mum in the theatre when i have a c section?
Its just last year my DH and mum held my hand when i gave birth to my stillborn daughter it was very hard on my mum she was devastated holding her baby grandaughter and has her heart set on being there when our new little girl is born she was there for all my natural births of my boys and her only living grandaughter my neice who is 19 so this little lady is very special and i have been told only one person can go in.
I dont want to upset her and tell her she cant be in there when bub is born.
What do i do?

I'd ask your Ob and see what they say.
I only had my DH in theatre when I had our son via c section but I only wanted him to be with me but a friend of mine had her partner and her mum in theatre when she had her DS..We were both at the same private hospital and same Ob. I guess you can only ask and maybe explain your circumstances :hug:

I had my DH, private midwife and student midwife in with me. Not sure what the rules are about non medical people, but if a student midwife was allowed in surely a mum could go in?

usually they will restrict it to one person. By the time you put all the staff in there, it can get a little crowded. However, considering your experience last year, your Ob may very well be ok with you having both your DH and your Mum there.

It varies depending on what hospital, what their protocol is and your Ob. A friend that had one local could only have her husband and another friend in vic could have her sis, partner and Mother. I think they sort of read how the people in the room will react too (e.g stressing mother out or causing a liability by fainting)

I think you just need to explain your situation and ask. When we were in hospital, we were originally going to have a c/s. We'd wrote in our quickly put together birth plan for DH and IM to be there. I wanted DH to stay with bub and the IM to stay with me (I had a thing - I did NOT want to be left alone at any time). One of the doctors objected, so my IM went and talked to someone else to get approval.

I'd start talking to your OB about your birth plan now, including this and other things like having skin to skin contact, bub being with you in recovery, no formula/sugar water feeding (& expressing colostrum before hand) or other things you'd like.

I would explain your circumstances as there is generally room for movement on this rule. it is best to keep in mind that if you ask they can say no...but if you inform them that this is what you need then you have a better platform on which to negotiate a suitable situation.

Totally depends on the Ob. Usually it's only one. I have been present a a client's c/s before as the Ob agreed. But usually they don't.

For my first C/s (emergency) I had my mum and my husband. Hope you can have both xxx

Hope you can have both! I had Dh and student MW. I think y ob would have probably let 1 more if I'd asked.

Aww don't worry, I never envisioned myself in there for a c/s, just waiting patiently outside with food and drinks for your mum and Scott when they came out :)

:hug: Ferals, I am probably one of your biggest stalkers, I've followed your entire journey this pregnancy.

TB - It was the anaesthetist who was banging on about hospital policy. Our IM talked to someone else - i think the Nursing Director of the Birth Suite - who OK'd it. For me, it was essential DH go with bub whilst our IM stay with me.

You know I think you should be discussing breech VB........ I'd ask for a 2nd opinion on that, though it will ultimately depend on who's on call at the time.

Otherwise, use it as a negotiating point: If I cant have a VB, then I need 2 people with me in OT. But really, if bub is frank breech, they should give you a go at VB.

If you think you really will end up with a c/s, start writing your alternative birth plan now to take to your next meeting (immediate skin to skin, baby with you in recovery, no weighing until after 1st feed, express colostrum leading up to feed bub if can't BF straight away, no formula etc)

Pumpkinzulu-Thanks heaps it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride hasnt it a lot of stress and anxiety and waiting but it's almost over just 9 more days and we will get to meet this miracle baby with scarey odds of having SLO i still cant believe we got lucky.

Ferrals....i think they normally only like one person there but i think it depends on you're ob and you're cirumstances and the hospital. I would plead you're case if i were you because of you're cirumstances. My mum had been at every appointment with me and had been there all day. My fill in ob actually approved it but just had to ask approval from someone. Mum only came in at the last minute once i was prepared and ready. hubby was there the whole time....
