She'd tell me if she was hungry....... right?

I don't know how to word this...... Ok, I'm getting some grief about the fact that DD isn't "fully" on solids yet and is still being breast fed and waking in the night etc. (mothers, who'd have them hey?).

Every time we chat, she tells me that she thinks that DD "must be hungry".

But..... she isn't (I don't think :o ). She is still b/f like a wee champ and is very much in the exploration stage of BLS.

I'd know if she was hungry hey? She doesn't grizzle, cry or anything else that might suggest she is unhappy. She is alert and bright and meeting all of her milestones. Her weight gains have slowed but that is to be expected as she's moving around loads just now.

She's let me know if she was hungry hey? Or would she?

if she is her happy, normal self and having B/F like normal then I wouldn't worry. She's only 7 months (well, nearly 8) but that's still really just the start of her solids journey! Babies won't let themselves starve, if she was hungry she would be letting you know, probably be very unsettled, not sleeping/waking all the time (in an abnormal pattern for her).

My mum STILL goes on about DD waking up during the night, so I just try and gloss over the issue and not tell her much at all. Easier than arguing with her everytime we talk about DD waking and sleeping in bed with us, when she "should" be sleeping right through :rolleyes: *note to self, don't be like that when DD eventually has kids!*

First of all I'm sending you a :hug: You are doing a great job with your baby girl.
Secondly your baby girl is only 7 months nearly 8 months and the main source of food for the 1st 12 months is either Breast Milk or Formula and solids are a secondary source of food which is gradually introduced from around 6 months or so(just a guide). So if your little one is meeting all her milestones and growing and happy and content then I'd say she's getting all she needs. As for waking during the night..my 3 year old still wakes some nights and has done all his life.
As for your mum I'd politely tell her that your DD is ok :hug:

Of course she would MummaSue. Your little girl knows what she needs, and don't worry, she'll be sure to let to you know too!!

I have to agree with ss_storm - sometimes it's better not to give out too much information. Once you have kids everyone is an expert and you can't do a thing right :rolleyes:

You are doing a wonderful job. Don't doubt yourself hun. Trust your instinct.

:hug: Mums (both are own and our friends who are mums but choose to use a different method to introduce solids to their kids) are great for planting seeds of doubt in our minds, hey? I remember questioning myself several times when we first started introducing solids, usually brought on by other people's questioning.

I have every faith that DD would let you know if she was hungry. If she's perfectly happy, gaining weight accordingly, still having wet and dirty nappies, then all is good. By all accounts from what you've been saying on here and on facebook I thing she's going great guns with BLS and doing exactly as you would expect. At the beginning they don't eat a lot, but they are still getting plenty of milk for nutrition and I've found with my DD she's developed in lots of little leaps too. As much as it pains me to admit it, it's not unusual for them to still be waking in the night too. I know you've done all your research and you know all the 'food's for fun until their one' etc stuff already, but I know it's easy to question when others are questioning you (and it's our jobs as mums to question too). Don't worry, you are doing great . :hug:

Ds didn't really start solids til 8 months. Before that his jaw was locked up like fort knocks. And I can say only the last two weeks or so he's really getting enthusiastic about his food.
If she is hungry she will Definitely tell you... Most probably in a "mum the world is ending" wail ;)

Thanks so much guys. I'm annoying myself - I sound like a broken record at the moment LOL.

I try and not say too much to mum but we were on skype the other morning and DD was chewing her fists like there was no tomorrow - and to my mum this meant she was hungry. The fact that she has just cut her two bottom teeth didn't come into the equation! GRR! *tears hair out*

I know DD's hungry noise..... it's kind of like a "nnnnnnn" moaning sound. And when she does that, I b/f her and she's happy. She never needs to cry.

So glad I have BB girls to keep me in check hehe. Thanks guys.

FWIW - Pie is 16 months now & still waking at night - just like all 3 of her older siblings did, who have been fed in a variety of ways :lol:. IMO it is an entirely individual thing & nothing at all to do with feeding.

She's fine the way she's going. Some babies need to wake for a feeds for sometime, if you can imagine how small their tiny tummies are and expecting them to go 8 or so hours or over is just silly. Yes some will do it, but majority don't. So much emphasis is put on getting them to sleep through without feeding. Sometimes our most loved are the most annoying, even though they mean well.

you could try some distraction techniques - tell her about Pie & my DS who is still waking anywhere up to 7 times a night & is still BF! the horror :lol:

i think it took my DS a long while before he really got into eating solids. and once they do get into it, then they adopt a toddler attitude & you can't work out their eating patterns at all! starving one day, picky the next :shakehead:
