? should I test even though I'm on birth control

Story is - I'm using the Implanon implant but I had to take some antibiotics for tonsillitis a couple of weeks back now - finished them Thursday week ago (last Thurs in Nov). I was warned to have back up protection while taking the antibiotics (I remember that from taking the pill before having my DS). However a couple of days later after finishing we BD but didn't use extra protection (not entirely sure we're ready for another munchkin yet). I think from memory I used to have to wait about 7 days after completing a course of medication to BD without protection. This week after going to the loo I had a couple of spots (I think I had implantation spotting with DS).

Sooooo...... big question - should I do a PG test?

(I'm still breastfeeding DS about 3 times a night and he gets about 2 bottles of expressed milk during the day while I'm working as well.)

You could probably test just for peace of mind but the risk is very low even lower than with the pill. I think its only with 1 or 2 antibiotics that the problem is so they tell you to take precautions with all. Thats what my Dr told me when I was on it. Plus BF so offten would be extra coverage

Yes, I would test. My current pregnancy got through the pill (which has never failed me before) and the morning after pill.

Have heard a few stories of women getting preg on Implanon, but not many, it's generally very, very effective.

I guess test if you don't get a period? (Assuming you normally get one on the Implanon)

Do you know what day your period is due? If it was me, I would test on that day.

I haven't yet had a period while on the implant and I'm still breastfeeding a fair bit (for a 17mth old- 5+ feeds/24hrs) so I guess that's why the question. I'm thinking maybe next week for a test- so about 14 days after we BD.

Technically, no period should mean that the Implanon is doing it's job and you're not ovulating, but ja, I'd go with the 14 days just in case.

I fell pregnant with DS while on the pill (we were going off in the new year anyway, found out on NYE lol) and was breastfeeding my 10mth old when I feel pg with DD, so neither the pill or breastfeeding prevented me getting pg. I would test, if you need peace of mind. Hope whatever the outcome its what you want.

We were starting to think about heading overseas next July which is why I'm not sure we're ready for another one - but I wouldn't mind either way (was probably going off birth control next year anyway)

I fell pregnant with DS and DD1 whilst on the pill and conceived a bubba that sadly wasnt sticky whilst I had the implanon in and that was 12 months after i got it in and wasnt on any medications at all so i would def test ... as for a time frame maybe do one in 14 days then another 14 days after if you cant wait that long that way you've covered the month

Well I caved a little early - yesterday and tested - BFN but as I was waiting for the result I read the instructions a bit more clearly for this test - a digital one that also predicts how many weeks pg you are (ClearBlue digital with conception indicator)- and read that if you have no idea when your period is due they recommend "testing not less than 19 days after the last time you had unprotected sex". So I guess that means I test with the other one next Tuesday to check which is about 19 days. (I'm not quite addicted to POAS syndrome but .... :p)

It took me a while (too early in the morning LOL) to work out that the instructions meant test at 19 days or later after BDing

still BFN this morning so I guess it's not happening for a while then here (although I might go and get another test to test with next week to be really really sure ;))

Each time I have had implanon inserted, I have never gotten a single period. It is a very common side effect of the implant. The only cases of people being pregnant while on implanon, have occurred because they were already pregnant 'before' having it inserted - they were just unaware of that at the time because it was too early to show on a HTP. Implanon is a very effective contraceptive.

I'm just making sure I'm not at the moment but we forgot to use extra protection just after I finished some antibiotics that I was prescribed so I have no idea where in my cycle I might have been if I didn't have the implant (although still BFing may also impact that too) - and I like POAS syndrome :lol:

i had implanon after having a my son, and every month for the 12 months i had it in i got my periods, even got bleeding every 2-3wks and would bleed for 2-3wks.....This has also happened with my sister who got the implanon too, so not everyone who gets the implanon stops getting their periods (also my sister doesnt have children yet)

I would maybe do one more test if still a BFN then i would assume its a negative

I figured I do that - even went out and bought some 1st response early test sticks - I love POAS when I can :lol: even if I'm expecting a BFN - may be later this week if I can't hold out longer otherwise early next week.
