I wonder if this will work...

DD's night sleep has been pretty terrible lately..not sure if it's her age, or the weather, or something else completely different.
She usually goes off to sleep by herself ok, but will wake up at some point during the night. Can be 11pm, midnight, 2am, 4am..I never can tell. sometimes she will go straight back to sleep when i put her in bed with me (which DF hates and wants me to stop) but more often than not lately she will be awake for hours, or half asleep but wriggling around everywhere on the bed and crying out randomly. So, I don't get much sleep at all, but at least I can just lie down and close my eyes (ok, so I may be taking the easy way out...lol).

I cannot get her to go back to sleep in her cot. I can sometimes rock her back to sleep, or sit on the lounge with her for ages and she will drop off, but if she doesn't wake as soon as she is in back in her cot, she'll wake within the next 30-60 mins. I am NOT doing that all night, every night!

She is normally in a grobag, but I've had to unzip her the last few nights when she has come into our bed because she's felt a bit hot and sweaty. So tonight she has no grobag, just her pj's and then I tucked a cotton sheet over the top of her (she hasn't had a sheet over the top since she was a newborn). She also hasn't had a day sleep today (due to her being awake for hours at some ridiculous hour this morning she then slept in until 8.30am), so while she was a bit feral this afternoon and was hard keeping her awake while she was eating dinner, I'm hoping she might be so tired that she sleeps for a lot longer, or at least doesn't feel the need to start the day at 4am.

Any other suggestions? I know I shouldn't, but I get so frustrated at her when she just will not go back to sleep in the middle of the night. CIO/CC doesn't work because she just screams until she makes herself sick and then takes even longer to settle back down. I would prefer for her to be in her own bed all the time, but if co-sleeping is what it takes for the moment then I'm happy with that, as long as the late night/early morning antics stop! or am I hoping for too much?! :lol:

My DD does the same thing. It drives me mental!! Squirming around the frigging bed pulling my hair, chatting and scratching me- ARGGGHHHH.

How are her day sleeps? I have been finding that the old saying of 'sleep breeds sleep' to be quite true - since DD has been sleeping for longer that 40 minutes during the day her night sleeps have also improved dramatically.

Not sure if it helps, but DS's sleep is also not great at the moment. Like your LO he's been waking up at 4 or 4.30am and wanting to start the day:wall: I would give anything to get him to go back to sleep with us, but once he's had a quick feed in bed he's up and trying to get out so he can go play.

I think it might be a developmental thing (either that or maybe something to do with how light it is at the moment) cos I know of a couple of other little ones around the same age as ours who are being little horrors at night. Fingers crossed it doesn't last too much longer x

No advice but plenty of sympathy. Blake's sleep is awful at the moment too! Let's hope the phase passes quickly!! :hug:

it's not light, our house is quite dark and even at 8am with the curtains closed you would be lucky to guess what the time was!
day sleeps i don't think have much effect either...she has had a few days in the last month or so where she hasn't had a day sleep and I don't think it changed her night sleep much. Normally her sleeps are 60-90 mins. Last weekend we went out for dinner and she didn't get to bed until after 9 but didn't wake until 6am. That little sleep can't be good for her though and I'm sure it would catch up with her eventually!
I think her grobag is getting a bit too small for her, even though it's up to 18 months, which is why I left it off her tonight. maybe being able to stretch her legs out will help, or not!

I wouldnt mind her waking up during the night still if she would just go back to sleep relatively quickly. It's the 2-3 hours of putting up with her rolling around, getting cranky when I move her back over to stop her falling off the edge of the bed, and just acting like it is time to get up and start the day (not at 3am thankyou!!!) that I'm starting to struggle to deal with.
having my mum constantly telling me that she should be sleeping through by now really doesn't help either! I've learnt to give her the vaguest of answers, but still doesn't stop her asking! And DF always going on about getting her to go back to sleep in her cot is starting to frustrate me too...sure, I'd love her to sleep all night in her own bed, but I'm not going to have both her and I up all night trying to make it happen!

ETA: she has done this a few times before and I thought they were just once-offs, but it's becoming a lot more regular now..probably at least 3 times this week already :wall:

How'd you go last night?
Whenever DF complains about co-sleeping I tell him HE can be the one to get up 50 million times a night to resettle DS in his cot and then and only then, does he get a say in what I do with him overnight because he can not possibly understand how hard it is at the time and to function the next day unless he's actually had to experience it.
Dunno if that will work for you or if you've tried it already.

Didn't have much success last night, was as crappy as ever...she woke up screaming at 11.30pm. She was standing up when I went in so I don't know if maybe she stood up in her sleep then woke up and freaked out... after getting her to stop screaming popped her in bed with me (tried patting her to sleep in her cot but she just lies there with her eyes open) she pretty much went straight to sleep, but then was really restless from about 3.30 onwards and woke up crying at 5..finally admitted defeat at 5.30 and we got up. She is now asleep in her pram because we went for a walk and she crashed out, so probably no middle of the day sleep today either. Gahhh!

maybe it is an age thing? DS has been a bit the same recently - wanting to party for hours in the middle of the night grrrr.

and don't worry about getting frustrated - it's been my permanent state for 17 months now :lol: i know that i shouldn't get like that either but geeeez....why can't they realise how lovely sleep is? :lol:
