Taking 15mth old to U2 concert?

We are seeing U2 this Saturday night and I'm yet to find a sitter for DD as those who I'd normally ask are going to the concert too! :doh:

We are seated in the stands (it's a Subiaco Oval) with my parents so I'm tempted to just take DD with us and wear her in our Ergo. Am I mental thinking this? She loves her sling, copes well with late nights and evening outings are not new to her. I just don't know that it's really the right thing to do.

I'm considering calling a professional baby sitting agency. That's our last option really which will be costly and also a bit weird - leaving her with someone we've never met before.

Thoughts?

If you are taking her make sure you buy her good quality ear muffs as it will be WAY to loud for her sensitive ears. (personally I would not take her)

Do you know if its even possible to take her?? I would hate you to get there and be turned away.

Yeah, they're my other concerns - the noise (would get her ear muffs though) and if she's actually allowed.

I should have sent my parents on the opposite night to us! :wall:

A nanny/babysitter might not be as exxy as you think, have you checked out the rates?

About to give one a call. A friend from my mothers group uses them and highly recommends her 'regular' sitter. Her DD is quite high maitenance and the sitter never has a problem with her. That makes me feel better. Phoning her now!

Hi there :) Having been to the Brisbane show last week, I would say don't take her. It was by far the loudest show I have ever been to, you could feel the vibrations in the air! We were a fair way from the stage too. Ear muffs would help but I think the sound would still get through and be pretty overwhelming for a young child. We saw a mum with her 2 kids around age 4 and 7 there, not quite sure how they were going to cope!

ETA - it was an awesome show!!! It will be worth paying for a professional sitter so you can go and enjoy it without having to worry about your daughter :)

Thanks girls. The professional sitters have availability but I must say, I'm a bit freaked out about leaving DD with a stranger for the first time. Oh why do I get myself into these pickles???

I'm definitely going to the concert but I just need to work out the sitter. Will I get over the 'stranger' factor enough to enjoy myself?

PS: 2girls - it sounds great! What time did U2 start and who was the support band(s)? It says the gates open at 4.30pm but we're not going that early, no way!

Could you ask one of the girls from Mothers Group to babysit? I always forget about the MG girls when I am looking for a sitter. A few have said they would be happy to do it as their hubby can look after their own kids and they are happy to look after mine and then your little girl at least knows them.

Jay-Z and his band were the support group. Have to admit that we didn't see much of his set, but what we heard was pretty good. We got there about 7.15, but we had seats, didn't need to race for a prime general admission spot! U2 came on about 8.20pm but it may be different for you - our show was at Suncorp Stadium which has noise restrictions so that it must be finished by 10.30pm.

See if you can find out the times from the venue - if you could get DD into bed before the sitter came then race over there, might make you more comfortable???

Thanks again for you suggestions girls. It looks like my SIL's sister and her hubby (practically another aunty and uncle to DD) will be able to watch her. Just waiting to hear back from them to confirm it. If not, I'll book a sitter from the agency. Yay! :dance:

One of the girls from MG actually offered to watch DD but, I know it's stupid, I really don't want to put her out. I know she offered and we actually get along really well but I'm just one of those people that worry about making others lives difficult. It's an annoying trait and I really need to stop doing it!

2girls - that's great to hear! I wouldn't mind seeing Jay-Z but it's no big deal if we miss out as like you, we have seats and don't need to rush. Subi has noise restrictions too so most concerts there are finished by 10.30pm. I think we'll aim to be there around 7.30ish so that way I should be able to put DD to bed and hopefully her damn teeth won't give her too much grief.

Yep! She lives in Padbury though, not sure where you are :) she has been doing Childcare for 7 years. I'll pm you :)

We took DS2 to see Kings Of Leon when he was 2. He had ear muffs and ended up sleeping through most of the concert! lol

We actually bought him proper ear muffs which looked massive on his ears but adjusted well to his head and kept a lot of noise out.
