DS keeps getting bitten ....by the same baby!

Firstly, I am very happy with DS2s childcare centre (plus it is at my workplace).

DS2 keeps getting bitten by the same bub. She has bitten him on the hand, arm, cheek, ear, behind the ear, top of the head and (today) on the forehead.

After the bite behind the ear I was told that they were putting a plan in place to stop the biting....obviously it's not working.

I guess there isn't much I can do about him getting bitten BUT what I'm concerned about is that DS2 is going to think that it's okay to bite. He bit me a couple of times on the weekend - once he tried to bite my finger but he also bit down on his (which he didn't like at all).

Does anyone have any tips I can use to stop my bub from biting others and biting me!

Most of us associate biting as something bad and inappropriate, when in fact if your child is of toddler age it is another way to communicate. Children get frustrated that they can not communicate to others what their needs and wants are, hence they bit or scratch. Other reasons for biting is also sensory some children what to know what it feels like, which is perfectly natural.

Re-direction is one way to try and stop biting, if they go to bite or have just bitten tell them No biting hurts, umah that's not nice and more them to another are, distract them with something else. Shadowing is a technique that child care centres can also do....

I work in a child care centre, so re-direction and shadowing is what we do which does work as long as it is consistant and you give if enough time to work... Me as a mummy though I know from other mums, and my own that if your child bites you a little nibble on them to show them that biting hurts could possibly be effective, I'm not saying bite down hard to leave a mark or anything.... It's just another scenario I've been told...

I worked in the toddler room for 2 yrs and the shadowing/re-direction techniques do work...
