so we were exposed unknowingly to chicken pox on monday, bubs had the blistered rash but mum was told it was heat rash.. i held bubs but DD2 didnt really go near her.
DD2 is yet to be immunised and with christmas almost here im now paranoid that she may get it :( what are the chances of her getting it from me after i held the baby???
Aren't you more contagious before the spots appear??
For your sake i hope that you haven't passed it on.
Pretty sure Chicken Pox is one of those ones that needs to be air born to catch it, like someone sneezes on you or exchange of saliva or persperation.
It is more contagious before the spots appear, can be just as contagious when the spots appear if they are pussy and you touch them.
If you only held baby, I would think your chances are pretty slim.

Were they broken or pussy? If not, you should still be ok. I am a pretty touchy feely sort of person and when I see a spot or something on a baby I intinctly touch it to try and soothe it, I know how you feel Olive!:
I think you will just have to wait and see on this one, keep an eye out for fever and how DD2 is feeling. I would imagine too, that if you were exposed on Monday, she would start to show some symptons by now if she does have it.
CP has an incubation period of about 2 weeks - so you *won't* see spots until after 2 weeks roughly.
Chances are she will be fine, and most likely won't present symptoms until after christmas even if she was exposed.
hey im not sure what your chances of passing it on are but i know that It takes from 10 to 21 days after contact with an infected person for someone to develop chickenpox. so you might be right for christmas either way...
i hope every thing is ok though and your DD doesnt get them!
mummyof4 is right, it will take 10-24 days before you will develop symptoms. It generally starts with flu-like symptoms, at which point you are contagious.
That said, at best, if you develop really early symptoms - say, in 10 days - you will still make it to Christmas, and then at best it will be another 10 days before your DD would display symptoms if she caught them from you.
well were 16 days post exposure.. so far so good, except today DD has a bit of a runny nose so hoping thats not the start of it :(
