Help!
Hi! My husband and I are ready to start a family (very excited!!)
I've been reading some of the posts, but am so confused as to what works and what doesn't, what we should and shouldn't be doing (I've just found out about taking my temp after reading one of the posts on here).
Can anyone please give me some pointers as to what's best?
Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received!
Thanks!

Hi Maggiemoo,
There is a lot of different information out there and lots of different things work for different people depending on circumstances.
I suppose really to start with the main things would be finding out when you are ovulating, so tracking your cycle to do this so you know the best time to try for a baby.
There are a few ways to track ovulation the first is taking your basal body temp upon waking in the morning at the same time each day.
second you can purchase OPK (ovulation predictor kits) which have similar sticks to pg tests and measure when you have had an LH surge and you should ovulate within the next 24 - 48 hours from that surge.
Third is the most gross but taking note of the changes in your cervical mucus around ovulation you should get egg white cervical mucus this is the best mucus for sperm to swim through.
Apart from that I guess the general things like eating healthy taking care of yourself taking a preg vitamin or at least folic acid.
Some people choose to take natural remedies from a naturopath etc.
I think the most important really though would be to pin point when you are ovulating and just have fun trying and then if it doesn't happen in a certain amount of time go and talk to your dr to look at why.
But I really hope you get a BFP straight away.

I second everything snikkers and MummaSue said.
Charting (Fertility Friend) and OPKs have been the best indicators for me.
Good luck honey!

Hello!! Welcome to the world of TTC.
Fertility friend, temping, OPK's, checking cm and cervix position are great methods of getting to know your cycles. I have done it all and am doing it all again this cycle BUT there is some part of me that wishes I didn't know all of that, and just DTD whenever in my cycle without knowing when my fertile time it etc etc. Cause it starts driving you insane!!! You do have control over it all but sometimes if just takes the fun out of it :dunno: but thats just my opinion..
If you do want that control I think that charting is the best way to go. I used OPK's this cycle but it was not much help because I didnt get that positive OPK after 10 days of peeing on the stick!!

Lots of useful info that has been provided.
Adding further ... that some lubricants can kill sperm. Pre-seed is sperm friendly. Some people note that using Pre-seed contributed to their bfp.
Joining a TTC group is valuable as well. I learnt the vast majority of information in the 1-6 month thread, 6+ month progressed into some alternative methods ie lunar fertility and natural methods of boosting fertility and now the 12 month + thread is centered on assisted conception and more explorative medicine - ovarian reserve, internal ultrasound etc..
Hope your TTC is a fun and short journey :)

Yes pre-seed is good! I was successful with pre-seed with #1 and have used it this cycle TTC #2 but wont know if it was successful for another week or so..

Thank you so much everyone. Your advice has certainly helped and eased my mind.
Hubby and I have agreed to remain calm and let nature take it's course (but in the meantime I'm going to see what fertility friend is all about) :)
Thanks again everyone!!
Will certainly keep you posted as to how things go...
