Issues with my Mirena IUD...advice appreciated

I got my Mirena IUD in June 09. It was a last option for me in terms of contraceptives and one my GP and Gyno reccomended. I had to have it fitted under GA since I had not yet had children and so my cervix had not ever dialated.

Anyway for the first 3 - 6 months I had a few teething issues, some niggling pains, irregular bleeding and what I thought was trush. In Dec 09 I went back to my Gyno and told him I couldn't handle the itching. He told me I had trush and to treat it. I told him I had had trush for months and I would treat it, be okay for a week then have the same symptoms. So he sent away a swap and surprise surprise it wasn't trush. My gyno said it was vaginal dryness and reccomended Replens to treat it. He swore that it was the vaginal dryness was nothing to do with the Mirena IUD. My GP told me it was most likely the Mirena IUD.

For the past 12 months I have lived on Replens. I don't remember what it feels like to have a "normal" vagina. Mine is ALWAYS itchy and irrated and sometimes sore. I've run out of Replens and been to two Chemists in my area and they don't have any! I'm about to lose it!

Now to my questions...Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Do I need to go back to my Gyno to get the Mirena removed or can I go to any old GP? Does it hurt having it removed?

I didn't have that problem, but did have mine removed for other reasons. It is much easier taking it out than putting it in. A GP can do it, or your gyno if you prefer. It won't hurt like it did when it went in. It does sound like it would be worth having it out to see if things improve :hug:

I never had kids before Mirena, and was just inserted in the office. I didn't have any of those problems. But - I'd be tempted to see another gyno for a second opinion. Having a GP & Gyno giving different opinions isn't ideal.

To answer your other question a GP can remove your Mirena (check first when making the appointment), a friend just had it done while having her regular pap smear. She didn't even know when he had finished.
I had never uesed it before kids, only after and it is working fine.
