Night feeds?

Firstly seasions greetings! (? as if im going to get any replies on Christmas day morning doh!)

but i need help? we are currently co sleeping and over the last two weeks DS has been waking at 3 am and i have been feeding him, (BF) now he is in that routine!

My problem is that we do this why i am lying down so i dont get him up to burp, then several hours later he wakes crying when we get him up he either burps or has a big spew! usually both together or more of the later!

should i be burping him after feeding him at the night feed? im going to try other setteling techniques tonight other than feeds as he WAS sleeping through.

I dont burp Ds after his night feed as he falls asleep, he probably needs it as he is similar I find he had often thrown up. If I wake him though he is cranky and won't sleep.

If your Ds is awake maybe burp him and see if it makes a difference.

I don't burp DD either and sometimes it's ok, other times she wakes with wind. If I burp her though she often thinks that it's time to get up and play - but if she wakes with wind she usually just goes back over. Does that make sense?

Most babies don't need to be burped after a night feed. Some babies don't need to be burped after any feed even. I would suggest just doing whatever works best for you. I think it's fine just to feed lying down and go back to sleep if you find that easier, but if it's more work for you down the track then sitting up to feed and then burping before dozing back off is fine too.

I would make the effort to burp him, it will be worth it in the long run. With DD I used to just sit her up in the bed next to me until she burped, most of the time she stayed pretty much asleep through it. With DS I actually get up for feeds and sit in a chair and properly burp him afterwards as he has a lot more trouble than DD did and if I don't burp him I am guaranteed a wake up within the hour!

I never burped DS after a night feed... couldn't be stuffed... LOL. If it cried yeah, I would, but I wouldn't if it just went to sleep.

We don't co sleep as much anymore, just don't get comfy with him there, so once he is finished (usually 15 mins or so if I don't fall asleep) it's straight into his bed and he is fine for several hrs.

FWIW i have never burped either of my girls after any feed so mebbe he doesnt even need it?? just a thought...

I never burped DS after a night feed either. But he was never the kind of baby that ever seemed to have a lot of wind or tummy upsets. We always fed laying down at night, and then he would just go straight back to sleep.

We always fed night sleeps laying down, I would find that both would bring up wind themselves just by going vertical, we didn't co-sleep but the cot was in the room and on the few steps to the cot they would burp themselves. Maybe just sit him up and give me a stretch upwards to see if anything comes up, then just lay back down again?

I usually wake up with my boobs still plonked out, so no I don't burp overnight because I fall back asleep while she is feeding! In the morning she does a few extra farts but apart from that she is fine.

Does your DS do big spews at any other time of day? I am just wondering, if there is something else you ingest before sleep that could be the spewy problem, not necessarily the wind?
