Buying nursery funriture. Anyone can tell me about 'King-parrot' cots and such??

Hi Ive been slowly collecting a few little things here and there for bub when the time comes, but am finding the big things difficult.

Ive really been looking at a nice cot & am liking the look of the 'King-parrot' brand furniture. Does anyone have one? Are you happy with it? any cons etc.?

Because of the climate we live in I don't want solid ends as I think this will limit airflow, Im not sure if the raised cot base is standard with all cots but it seems like a great idea also.

What other things should I be looking for in cots?

Im liking the change table/chest of drawers idea as opposed to the freestanding change table.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

We have a king parrot cot and love it! We also have the change table on top of the drawers thing - love it! One big advantage is that bub can't get in and pull all the stuff out of the shelves under the table. We have a little hook that we put inside the top drawer to hang a nappy sack on to make things a bit easier for changes. All nappy stuff lives in the top drawer so it's not on display and to me just looks a little bit neater and tidier.

The king parrot furniture is made by boori - so fantastic quality. It's just that the cots are a more standard size than the boori cots. And at a fraction of the price.

:yeahthat: Yup, ditto to everything BW said. In addition to the cot and chest of drawers/changetable, we also have the matching bookcase which looks great also.

My DD was in the cot from day 1, so having the raised cot base was great for us, as was so easy to put her in, especially if we had to rock her to sleep, and then do the drop and run!

I loved the Boori collection, but was turned off by it not being of standard size, so King Parrot to me was the next best thing.

We've had a King Parrot cot since 2004. It's been through two babies climbing on the sides to get in & also (at the time) a 3-4 year old plus a baby (1-2 years old) wrestling in there together with no problems. We loooove the cot to bits. We also have the drawers with the change table part on top & it's survived two kids as well. The change part is packed away now, but the drawers are still being used. Love it!

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback ladies. I hadn't realised that they were made by Boori as well, as I had liked the look & quality of the Boori furniture but not the price and also the non-standardised sizing like you.

I had heard that some people had had problems with the one-handed drop sides not always working easily. But Im thinking now that they are definately the way we want to go for our nursery furniture.

Ive only seen them online for now but will try and check them out in town when I can. So does the change table top come off when you dont need it?

Once my DH showed me how to put the side up and down, I had no problems at all. He showed me a little trick and I've had no problems since. I also didnt start using the drop down until I lowered the cot when DD started sitting up in it.

And yup, the changetable is removable. You buy the chest of drawers, and they have an attachment you can buy which allows the change mat to sit on top, but securely in it like a normal change table. I think it's great cos once you don't need it any more, it just reverts back to a normal chest of drawers, so you don't have to go out and buy them when bubs is older and needs more storage space.

i love mine,
so easy to put together and pull apart, we have moved it 5 times.

we have the normal bite marks in it but otherwise no issue.

we even used it as a toddler bed we bought the extra side bars and love it.
DD2 will have it as a toddler bed for a few more years.
we got ours in 07 and still going strong.
i used to even sit on it with DD1 to read a book etc

The one hand drop side thing sometimes sticks for me, but it's not an issue. I've had Sam stand up in it at the age of nearly two and shake the side enough to get it to drop down - but he doesn't try to climb out, so not really an issue. Sam does at times try to climb into the cot - and it's showing no signs of stress from having a 14+kg toddler suspended from the side.

But there's one reason I LOVE the one-hand drop side. DH often takes Sam out in the middle of the night without dropping the side. If I've then got Sam asleep and trying to get him into the cot... I can actually get the side down without having to put Sam down somewhere first. Brilliant!

We also have the bookshelf. Absolutely love the kingparrot furniture! I think we'll be taking the sides off Sam's cot and turning it into a toddler bed when we get back home. I've been staying with my parents for the last week and Sam's been in a regular bed here and loves it.
