Anyone got a BFP after mirena iud and multiple miscarriages

Am new to this forum but just had a few questions for anyone who has had the mirena IUD. I had a mirena put in April 2009 and after six months of constant bleeding and thrush the doctor finally took it out in Sept 2009. We have been ttc since July 2010 and have had three early miscarriages. I have had two children previously, falling pregnant straight away with completely uneventful pregnancys. I know there may be other causes but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problems and gone on to have successful pregnancys I am so worried at the moment and am having a two month break from ttcing. I have had an ultrasound which was all clear but not any bloodwork yet my doc wants to wait for it to happen again...not something I am looking forward to. Any comments would be appreciated. x

I had my IUD put in 6 months after giving birth to my son (textbook pregnancy & birth), I never liked it, and always felt like my body didn't agree with it in there... It started giving me thrush and I told my doctor - as I never got it before the IUD! Doctor wouldn't confirm the link and told me it was not caused by the IUD... After months of suffering I went and had the IUD removed... I fell pregnant instantly and miscarried at 5 weeks... I asked the doctor again if it possible that the IUD had caused the miscarriage.. Again "No, not the IUD"... I've since had two more miscarriages... One at 8 weeks (after seeing viable h/b) and the other just last week (should be 9 weeks today)... Both of these miscarriages resulting in D&C...

I am totally convinced it is the Mirena IUD that has caused all my problems! I'm desperate to find out why this is happening and how to stop it from happening again!!!
Everyone keeps telling me that the miscarriages are not my fault - but I really believe it is! If I never got the IUD put in, this would never have happened!!

Note: Thrush went away as soon as the IUD did....

My thrush went away as soon as I had it removed as well I cant say I was suprised! I am currently pregnant again and am 10 weeks saw the baby last week with a strong heartbeat and measuring right it appears the baby has implanted up high and I am hopeful that it will be ok. Everytime I had a miscarriage I always had pain in the same area that I used to from the mirena I feel strongly that there must be some kind of scarring or something. Of course my doctor (who recommended it) swears there could be no link between the multiple miscarriages and the IUD which I find incredibly hard to believe seeing as I never ever had these problems previously.

My thoughts are with you for your miscarriages I am soooo nervous and worried and just want to be thirteen weeks so I know I'm past the most dangerous period, but dont know If I will relax anyway seeing as I really dont know why I've been miscarrying.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that things get better and hopefully we will both have successful pregnancys again soon. Lets put it this way I tell anyone who will listen to never ever get an IUD especially a mirena.xx

You have given me the strength and faith I need to continue on my journey...

I am currently awaiting my results from my blood tests & tissue sample they took from my last D&C... It sounds so clinical and detached writing (tissue sample)... I am hoping for some sort of answer, but know I probably wont get one...

Stay positive and strong for that precious life you are carrying!!! I will be thinking of you & sending you all the positive vibes I can muster....

Its sooo hard in some ways you want them to find something and in other ways you dont. I have also had contact with women on another website who were also like me and have managed to get pregnant and stay pregnant after about 4 miscarriages and at least 12 months post removal of their IUD.

I so hope that this is it for you and things can get back on track...I hate the hoping and that feeling of knowing its not ok I have somehow known everytime its not going to be ok. This time I feel better but as normal I am very worried I just get through every day hoping that things are keeping on growing and progressing.

Yes, I am in two minds about them finding "something" and not finding anything... My husband and I have a strong feeling that we will one day have another child... And that keeps us going for now... And if we never have another baby, well we are already so blessed to have a gorgeous little man...

Its reassuring to hear you say that you have found other women going through the same experience and that 1 year past there IUD removal is when they were lucky enough to stay pregnant...

I recently saw a psychic that told me that I will have two kids... And that I should let my body rest until around August... Well it will be post 1 year since IUD removal in August... I really hope that is the time for me!

I will wait for my results to see if I get any answers... And then we'll have to just take it from there...

Thanks for the kind words Jayde it means a lot. Not many people really understand what its like until they have been through it. I think that because I already have two children people cant understand why I would be upset about what has happened, but we have always wanted a large family and it's been heartbreaking. I think this may be it for me now though if this pregnancy is ok it has been as you know a fairly traumatic time and I don't know that i would like to go through this all again. Only time will tell.

Sending you all the love and luck for a new baby for you. It took me about 14 months post removal to keep this pregnancy so far so, I am really hopeful for you too just make sure you look after you and your body and get yourself in a good place.

Yes, totally... No one can truly understand what its like until its something they've endured themselves... Even then everyone's experience is different to the next... Its horrible when people try to comfort you by saying "Well at least you have one kid, isn't that enough...?" Or, "Lucky you're young, you've still got plenty of time"... It doesn't make a difference or change the fact that you've just lost a baby...

My blood test came back "all normal"... And I told my doctor that I have found lots of women on forums with all the same problems, her response was simply "There is nothing that can be done, until there is research to back up any of these theories - we'll never know"...

So I guess all we can do Emma is spread the word to as many woman as possible about the "unknown risks" of the Mirena IUD... And pray that no one has to go through what we've been through because of a contraception!

I'll be waiting until at least another few months or so before trying again - I truly hope this is it for me too!

This happened to a friend of mine, had her first 2 children no probs. Had the mirena in and for a few years, got remarried they wanted to try for a child, 4 miscarrigaes later then they finally got there baby.
Her specialist was going to have a look inside for scarring. She wondered if the mirena had caused some sort of scar tissue that would then make it harder for an embryo to stick. But she got pregnant thankfully before this and from memory I think she had daily progesterone supposetries too to keep the uterus strong.

I've asked my doctor about taking a progesterone suppliment as I keep hearing that it could help me hold a pregnancy and she seems to think it won't help... I'll be sure to ask the gynae when I go for my check up next week!!! I keep hearing 4 miscarriages... Well I'm only on my 3rd and hope to god it's my last!!!

With the progesterone I don't see why not give it to you. From what my friend was saying it may or may not help but its better to try it seeing as there isn't any risks if you do.

Hey Jayde I dont have my scan until Monday so am still anxiously waiting. I still wont get my results until the week after due to easter and stuff my docs away so wont be too happy until I know that it's a low risk, still that worry in the back of my mind wondering what went wrong. Hopefully I get a nice ultrasound technician and they tell me some wont say a word some are great. Oh well Ive got this far not knowing I guess. Hoping that you are staying healthy and strong and looking after yourself will let you know when I do x Emma

Sorry Ive taken so long to reply only got my results on Friday. All looks good with bubs I am now 14 and a half weeks and my down syndrome risk was 1/3000 which is low so I feel like I can relax a bit now. Will keep in touch and am hoping that it all comes together for you soon xx

Do you think you'll find out the sex of your bubs?

No I dont think I will find out what the sex is after all this I think this will be our last bub so I want to keep the excitment for the end. my girls are flat out but gorgeous and my four year old is very excited about being a big sister again I think that she would be much happier if its a girl but dont think she will care either way. I have got a slight belly but I never get very big although I am heavier than what i was with the girls so will be interesting to see If i get bigger due to that although am trying to keep active and everything. Miss two and a half has just had her tonsils out and suffers from reflux still so we are just getting her back on the right meds and stuff and am finally getting a little bit more sleep at least I will be used to getting no sleep still I guess when bubs comes along. I have four weeks nursing prac for uni in the next couple months so once that done will try and put my feet up. How are you going have you found anything else out? x

Wow, you have more self control than me... I always thought I wouldn't want to know the sex of my baby before its born, but as soon as I was pregnant last time I was so convinced I was having a boy so I wanted to find out for sure... Next time around I'll probably be just as eager to know again...

All my tests have come back clear, they pretty much gave me the whole "its just bad luck" line... I've been told I can try again any time now, but I'm just going to take the approach of when its meant to happen it'll happen and not "actively try" just go with the flow. I've got my both my sister's & best friend's weddings coming up now to which I'm both maid of honour for, so I will at least be kept busy and hopefully wont be thinking too much about it all for the time being...

Well I hope all your pracs go well and Miss 2 and a half gets settled with the tonsils out and reflux problem (poor little chicken) ... I know how hard it can be with the reflux problems, my nephew had it really bad :(
