Shirring Elastic?
Nans sewing machine. OK its out of the cupboard, I vaguely remember how to thread it. Have to admit I got all emotional digging out all her bits and bobs, her washing machine and sewing machines were the two things she specifically wanted me to have after she went. In fact she gave them to me BEFORE she went.
SO anyway I was looking through the stuff and I came across soem shirring elastic ... um?
anyone know what it is used for? I was planning on having a go at those elasticated bodice type dresses, seems easy enough, could be biting off more than I can chew
Others I know are making pinnys so don't want to venture into those waters, mainly I was digging the old machine out to make headbands then saw the elastic and went hmmmmmmmm
so aside from my sentimental post ........ anyone know what SHirring Elastic is?

i make my girls and myself summer tops and dresses with shirring elastic all you have to do is thread it onto the bottom bobbin not the top so that easy and im a beginner at sewing and found it really easy to do, theres a few great tutorials online which is where i found out how to use it properly, i can pm you the links if you need

I know, as I was only told the other day :D
You'll have to hand wind it onto your bobbin. Not too tight, not too loose. If you wind it too tight it will break. The top thread is standard sewing thread. Use a color which matches the fabric, to best hide any wiggles and wobbles. If you go out of line slightly, don't worry. Sew slowly. And I think you use a zig zap shaped stich but iy may be call an elastic stitch...
I will PM you a link to a blog on how to do it, because it has advertising I don't think I can post it directly :)

What fabric do you use it with Nik? what does it do? does it bunch up? do you need to stretch it out somehow?
those links would be great too, thank you x x
SNAP BEEMA lol so what does it do exactly?
-
Yep it bunches up you don't need to stretch it out just hold it tight when sewing so it doesn't muck it up (you'll know what I mean when you do it) I just use a nice cotton fabric it looks really good and it's a lot easier than it looks will PM you when I get home :D
