Our DC centre held a graduation ceremony for the preschoolers recently, complete with academic gown, mortar board hats and even class t-shirts with the little ones names!
My kids aren't up to that stage yet, but I was wondering if this is an exception or becoming more common?
How cute would that be! Our preschool doesn't do that, but at the end of year Christmas party those that are leaving for big school are given their portfolios and a graduation certificate that is laminated. I wouldn't have a clue if what yours does is the norm or not - I've only had my kids at the one preschool.
Our centre does a ceremony for Pre-school graduates too. We get the laminated certificate & photo for every year they graduate to the next class (Junior Kindy, Senior Kindy, Pre-school)
I worked at a Centre about 8 yrs ago and we did a big graduation ceremony (hats/gowns/certificates etc) every year for the 'Leavers', was always a big celebration.
I thought it was cute too! Actually tears welled up in my eyes when I thought that my little ones would "graduate". Already told the grandparents that they'll be attending the graduation ceremony.
They did that at DS' preschool. Since the LDC is on campus they make quite a production of it and it is done in one of the lecture theatres, which is actually about a hundred metres away from where the uni will hold my graduation ceremony in a couple of months. My mother thought it was a bit "silly" :rolleyes:, since in her day they only had graduations for when you graduate from university or college. But I invited her to come as well and she seemed to think it was cute.
The children sang heaps of songs while they had photos of the children from the past year on the screen behind them. Then the children left the room and came back in with their gowns and motar board hats (these seemed to just be made out of black cardboard, possibly by the children themselves, but they were cute), sang another song and then each received their portfolios and their certificates. Then DS and another child held a knife and cut their graduation cake. Of course, it was only pushing the knife down once and then it was whisked away for the teachers to cut up.
It must admit, I did get a bit teary LOL. Because I started studying at the uni when he was 7 months old, he's been there a while and both of us had become attached to some of the teachers at his LDC.
