I'm not an expert, but one thing is it controls your metabolism.
It can be underactive, person is usually overweight, or overactive, person is often underweight.
I know a few people with thyroid problems.
There is more too it than that though. I just don't know much.
It's a part of your endocrine system (all those hormones) and regulates the metabolism, so it's quite important.
Symptoms of underactive thyroid include low energy, constipation, weight gain/difficulty losing weight
Symptoms of overactive thyroid include difficulty sleeping, weight loss, increase in apetite, heart problems
well i have a couple of both symptoms withboth the over active and under active thyroid.
umm im very skinny weight today 50 kg i eat like a hors of late and dont usually,i do not sllep well,i have the no energy and i mean no energy i said to the dr ive got a job getting in the shower :( i just have no drive at all.im short of breath all the time lately and thats not me i could go all day.so i just dont know im a bit worried though cause theres something wrong with me and i know it.

It also regulates a lot of hormones - so BFing, growth etc. Generally with underactive (I have it) you may have an enlarged goitre (adams apple), be very tired, put on weight, lose hair, have dull skin.
well see thats another one my hair...its falling out like mad its gross sometimes i can just feel it on my back ewwww
