oh this is never goingto end for poor ds...

well as many would know my son was diagnosed with adhd bout 5 months ago n has been on 2 diff medication since his diagnosis...
prob is his getting worse n worse...
his sooo aggressive its crazy!!! he literally looses it for nothing if i tell him to sit down n behave he tells me to shut up n im a pig n he hates me n his gonna stab me :(
he literally bashes my neice every time they see eachother n he just yells at her
his 4 yrs old... where is all this anger coming from???
i had to ring his specialist n change his appt from feb to this friday n speak to him over the phone cause its becoming out of control..
his also started wetting himself again... wat the??
the spec advised he may have to go on something stronger due to this medication not taking effect on him in which it hasnt all he does is become drowsy n fall asleep..
no change in behaviour or toning down the hyperactivity n his anger n tourette like symptoms are just becoming worse...
the spec said he may have to go on ritalin.. but everyone abused me today when i told them they said im killing my son...
my son is on a very special diet which was instructed to me by a dietician, he literally doenst drink any fizzy drinks its mainly water n im following the diet to a tee,...
my prob is he is meant to start school next yr.. n he is extremely intelligent his vocabulary n communictaion skills are that of a 7 yr but he doesnt know his abc's can count to 5 n thats it doesnt know colours n can not recognise his name or even attempt to write it..

My research has only been limited to adults but I know ritalin and other dexamphetamines work well with many people with ad/hd. The brain works differently and it needs help to slow down to process information. Otherwise it gets overloaded and causes stress.

Drugs on their own aren't enough. I suggest talking to the ladies on the spectrum thread about behavioural therapies. They'll have more info than me. There should also be help so families learn how to adapt for affected kids. I know there's various funding available but don't know who it's for or how you access it.

:hug: I totally understand what you are going thru. one of my girlfriends DS1 was diagnosed about the same age. He is also very agressive and has no understanding of boundaries. She researched the drugs when he was diagnosed and had to trial a few to get the dosage right. Now he is a different boy, but one day of missing the drugs and he is back to what he was.

You aren't killing your boy by giving him medication to cope with life. you are helping him control himself when he is unable to. I am a high school teacher and it is horrible watching kids with ADHD try to concentrate at school when they haven't had meds. Keepin contact with the dr and let them know what is going on.

Once he has the correct medication you'll find a massive difference in his attention span and his reading and writing will come along in leaps and bounds. My DD1 couldn't read ANYTHING, except her name, when she started school but within 6 months was reading quite well. Don't stress about school until he is there. And it is brilliant he is starting medication before school, as he has a chance to adjust to it before the big change of starting school.

ryatha thats what i mean with adhd everything is all trial n error.. it takes time in which im soooo glad its before he starts school cause i dont want my son to feel that its more then he can cope with. when he feels intimidated he gets very violent..
in saying that the school he will be attending have a section where children with needs n extra supprot can go to.. my nephew has autism n adhdn he went there n my SiL said thank god for it as he went to a private school before that n they were going crazy n kicked him out due to lack of control..(sad really)
i know im not killing him but it makes me 2nd guess my choices as a mother in doing so...
i have contact with him (dr) every 3 weeks n he is also quiet expensive to but he is the best i can get.. so getting him the right meds would be a relief sooner then later..
i just want my son to feel in control n be able to sit n read with me without having to get up n fidget n become distracted after 3 words..

If he was diabetic you wouldn't hesitate in giving him the medication he needs so you need to look at it like that. have you tried other behaviour modification strategies ? has he seen a paed psychiatrist/pscychologist ?

no he hasnt its very hard to find one that will see him as they tell me their minimal age requirement is 5...
ive also wondered if they could do a scan on his brain too dont ask y but just to make sur ethere is no underlying issue there neither...
i wanted to get him into behavioural therapy n also education therapy but then again i hit a brick wall..
it just seems that even though there is so much help out there is just at my finger tips not yet able to touch due to age..
do u suggest any that you would think or know of that also helps them..
i dont wanna just rely on ritalin as a main source of treatment i am willing to try anything to help my lil ds work out his issues.

My 2 friends that are teachers said EXACTLY the same thing. People give it such a bad rep but it seriously is an awesome result with a child's behaviour. Also my friend that did a placement at a kindergarten for a month saw a child's transformation literally overnight when they got his dosage right!

Hun you're not killing your son by putting him on Ritalin. You're a fantastic mum & you're doing what's best for your little boy. The behaviors he is displaying he can't control & there is no way he wants to behave the way he is so you have to do what is best for him.
There is a little boy at my work with ADHD, he is a beautiful little boy, on Ritalin. When he is not on his medication he swears at the carers, lashes out at the other children, can't focus at all on an activity, is running around from one thing to the next & will repeat things over & over, like kicking the wall, he could stand there and do it for an hr. It breaks my heart to see him like that, he is such a sweetheart & doesn't want to be like this he just can't help it when he hadn't had his medicine. When he has had it he is kind, loving, gives hugs, likes to help out with things, helps the other kids out & has a permanent smile on his face & enjoys being involved in social activities.
You're his mum, don't let anyone tell you what you're doing is killing your son. You're at your wits end by the sound of things and are making an informed decision based on professional medical advice.

Now is the time to get help, I am sad so many places say he is too young cause thats the best time to get all this sorted.
The psychologist I know of only does ASD/autism kids so prob isn't appropriate, will ask around for you.
We have found with DS- he has sensory problems and some behaviour probs stemming from this, that OT has been a lifesaver. His OT specialises in sensory/ASD type kids and is awesome. She is on holidays until school goes back but I can ask her then if she knows anyone in your area (I think we PMed each other about CC once and you said where you were) Another friend goes to an awesome OT in Richmond but again too far for you.
Once I am back at school I can get my hands on more resources for you, we have an early intervention unit at school so I can ask the head of that.
I would call Lifestart and see if they can help, they do preschoolers.

yeah ladies i am trying to do whats best for him... alot of the statistics in bullying say that alot of children bullied are the ones with an obvious disorder or disability u only have to look at him to tell something isnt right...
im def going to try this med n fingers x'd it will give him the freedom i think he soooo muchly desires.. i know my son can be all those things plus more if his brain n body would communictae together..
