Bonjella & choline salicylate for babies???

Hi ladies!

our DD is starting teething.....
nothing seemed to help, and as a last resort a couple of days ago, I used a smidge of bonjella (pharmacist had told me not before 4 months, but at 3&1/2 I hoped was OK). I don't like using drugs etc unless as a last resort, and this really was. Well, she needed some more again today .... :(
I am just concerned though because it says quite clearly "teething gel" yet it contains "choline salicylate" which is supposed to not be used by those under 16 years????

I would happily chuck this out and buy something else, only all the products our closest pharmacy stocked had this ingredient, and as I live along way out of town, it will be an almost "all day" trip to get something else from the next town (provided they have something else!) and if DD is anything like she was like today then I don't know that we are up for that trip!

And what else is out there anyway?

i dont like to use it much either have u looked into teething necklaces? they worked for a while with DS and i only had to use bonjella a few times

yes we do have the amber necklace already (I should have mentioned that). She wears a necklace during the day and an anklet at night (as I don't like her sleeping with the necklace on). But sadly her teeth are still bothering her :(

:( ummm i think u can get some stuff from the childrens in adelaide not sure if ur there or if u knoe someone there apparently it works really well but im not exactly sure wats in it ok thats probably not much help have u tried panadol or nurofen but not sure if thats any better

Have you tried the brauer's teething relief? It worked really well with DD coupled with a little panadol. I have been guilty of using bonjella but DD detests it so can't even use it as a last resort now.

Yep brauer teething relief and highlands teething tablets (if they are back on the market) are both homeopathic remedies and worked a treat. Cold washes to chew on and you can get mesh bags too which will hold a piece of ice which are great when they are awake but the brauer is great to help them settle at night. I guess panadol is available too if you feel more comfortable with that? We steer clear of all salicylates here as my DD has an intollerance to them so bonjella made everything worse for us

I tried to get the brauers (I had their colic relief formula and thought it was good) but couldn't get any! I ended up getting some SM33 gel, still has salycilic acid in it though :(
I ran into a freind who raved about "infants friend" so I got some of that - only to find DD with big red welts around her mouth!! She is one of the lucky few who is alergic to it. She is OK now, but it took a couple of hours for the redness to go down. So we tried the panadol, which seemed to work (I think) but it did seem like she spat more of it out than she took. I can't even slide it in when I'm BF because she is so off her food right now that she is fussing enough on the breast as it is. It's not nice to see them like this, is it?

There are two different types of bonjela on the market - the adult one that isn't for people under the age of 16 and the infant teething one, which is safe for infants.

I personally use SM33 because I find its much more effective in pain relief so I don't have to use it as often, or as much of it.

i remember having another one it might have been sm33 but the shops here dont have it anymore and it worked better than bonjela
