Elevit vs. Folic acid
Not sure if there is another similar thread else where and I'm too impatient to wait for Tuesdays doctors appoint to ask him, so...
If I'm taking Elevit daily do I still need to be on a separate Folic acid vitamin? Or is the Elevit enough on it's own? It's been playing on my mind for a few days. I have both but I've only been taking the Elevit as I didn't want to 'over do it' if that's possible :/
Any suggestions as to what everyone else feels or finds may be better/ or worked better for them during pregnancy & first trimester?
Thanks all :)

I only took folate. I found that elevit had a lower level of folate than straight folate tablets. I also found the elevit tablets too big for me to take without vomiting.

i only ever took elevit. my ob told me that was enough on its own.

Elevit has 800 micrograms of folic acid. The recomended dose for women TTC or pregnant (who do not have a family history of neural tube defects) is 500 micrograms so Elevit covers this and you don't need to take the extra folic acid.

^^^ like PP said unless you have a reason to need a higher dose elevit is fine some medications and problems also lower your ability to absorb folic acid and you need a higher dose

I was taking Elevit but was told by several midwifes and doctors that they think Blackmores gold pg and BF is better as it contains iodine and Elevit doesnt, even though lots of pg women have been found to be low in iodine in recent years and it is recommended.

Elevit now have an 'Elevit with Iodine' tablet which I've just ordered online today.
