We are going to be renovating a kitchen soon and will be putting in a dishwasher - YAY !
Anyone have a dishwasher they love for any particular reason - besides the obvious :p
What is better - the kind that uses the hot water out of the hot water cylinder or the kind that heats uses cold water and heats it ?
So, bring it on... tell me everything !

I have a Bosch. I love it.
I only love mine because it washes the dishes.... it's not what I'd choose... but it is older and came with our house... I reckon if I were in the market that I'd possibly check out the Fisher and Paykel draw ones cos I think they look cool lol. Also, I believe if you do have a smaller load you can run the draws independently which is a plus for water saving :) Other than that, I'm no help sorry.
Apparently the F&P dishdrawers have a tendency to leak.
Google "problems with dishwashers" and there'll be a whole heap of stuff there. Research, research, research. I went with the Bosch because it's water and electricity-friendly IYKWIM, and still washes... I use it for literally everything. If it doesn't go in the dishwasher, I don't buy it.
Oh interesting Div! Thanks for that. I have to admit that DH is pretty much into researching stuff a LOT lol... which is good. I think he takes after his dad! Bosch have a good name in the market too. If I reno my kitchen, then I'll look into them :)
I have an el-cheap-o I think its simpson might be a westinghouse(ill get of the lounge soon and find out) its great does a wonderful job cost just under $500
I know some people who love their dish drawers, but after having a bit of an ask around here (maybe try searching and see if you can find older threads too) we settled on a Bosch, the one with the cutlery tray at the top.
I've never had a dishwasher before this, but no complaints - it's quiet, seems to wash well, fits heaps, and the cutlery tray is super convenient. I imagine with 3 boys you won't be needing a single drawer option often anyway. There are quick cycles in most dishwashers anyway I think, if you wanted the brekky dishes out of the way.
Ours is a tall, pregnant red-head. Very efficient, never had a problem with it, does a full rinse-wash-dry cycle and has not yet needed a service (although may be due for one soon). Very fast and quiet cycle, although it does spurt an occasional "GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING, YOU'RE MAKING THE MESS WORSE!"
I never buy anything like this without checking out Choice Magazine. They have a good article on dishwashers where they compare heaps of models and test. I'm not sure if you have to be a subscriber to see the full thing, but it's worth it.

yep, productreview is a great website when buying things...we have an LG DirectDrive, very happy with it, got a good deal from the Good Guys, if you have one close to you.
I am not sure whether it's better to have one which directly uses your hot water system or not.
However in Qld, we have had an unusual electricity night tariff for 8 hours overnight - tariff 31 which is very cheap. My parents thought they would get a 315L hot water system, after both of us kids moved out. Well they have too much hot water so their dishwasher runs straight off the hot water system.

Must be simmilar model to ours!! we have the short, brown haired pregnate model, must be a realy dodgey one tho, i think its broken, theres always dirty dishes out....
I tried a short not pregnant 11 yr old model but it was crp!! It made a loud whining sound and did a really bad job. I had to get a dishlex instead which has been great.
I would recommend Fisher & Paykel draws (parents, sister and friends have/had them and they've been great - no leaks either but worth googling that) but I personally find them a bit annoying for big salad bowls and platters so we put in a Bosch in our last house. It was a lovely dishwasher but it didn't dry the dishes well at all. We sold the house a year after building it so I never got around to getting it looked at.
We are in a 'knock down' house at the moment and we put in a really cheap DeLonghi and it's useless! We should have spent a bit more and put in something decent especially given we'll sell it when we knock down anyway. We have to put it on the longest, toughest cycle regardless of what is in there or it just doesn't clean. Even then we sometimes have to hand wash some of the dishes as they come out dirty :wall: My parents have the same dishwasher but with different branding (Whirlpool or Westinghouse - I can't remember!) and it's equally as crap as ours. They have the exact same issues and it floods the kitchen if they have a power outage. It's been 'repaired' several times but the problem still continues. They had the F&P draws in their last house and loved them.
When we build our next house I think we'll go for a Miele.
Do not buy a Heller - absolute C.R.A.P. Ours lasted about 10 months and was then unuseable, didn't even want it to be repaired, so glad to see the back of it.
