Green and mucousy poos???

My son is now 3.5 months old and has been growing and feeding tremendously since day dot. He was 4.150kg born and now weighs 7.6kg, so is averaging about 250g a week which Im told is good. My problem is he Poos ALOT, like after every feed and just in the last week his poos around midday are green and mucousy. The one in the morning after his night feeds are the normal baby poo colour. Is it something Im eating, is he lactose intolerant, is he just a guts (i express about 130ml a side and he has both sides at every feed, so over a cup about 8 times a day) and drinking too much????? I never had this problem when my daughter was little .... HELP!

Sounds similar to my DD around the same age. Does he have a lot of wind as well? It could be oversupply or foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. Sorry DD is getting cranky so I can't write more. Look up oversupply on the ABA website to see if it seems to 'fit'.

My ds had the same green slimy poos every now and again. It seemed to be related to teeth for him, maybe all the excess saliva/drool? They went away on their own without me changing my diet.

It's probably nothing to worry about - green is on the normal spectrum of baby poo colours.
Oversupply or a forceful letdown can give them symptoms of lactose overload (it's not true intolerence) - the ABA is a good place to get some advice on that. You can always call the helpline to talk to a counsellor. I think the poos tend to be frothy if that's the case.

In any case, it sounds like he's doing very well.

Does it ring any bells for you, particularly the last section about lactose overload? Does he have a longer stretch overnight? Do your breasts feel fuller in the morning?

Mucousy poos can be a sign of an allergy or intolerance........but that would usually be every (or at least most) poo. It doesn't sound as though that's what is going on for your DS.

My DD had mucousy poos a few times too, I didn't think too much about it because they returned to normal fairly quickly and just put it down to something I ate?

If your baby is happy and thriving the colour of the nappies just really doesn't matter. It's nothing your doing, nothing your eating - it's not you. In poo, most things are within the range of normal. Relax. It can be disconcerting when one child differs from another in their habits, but that is the nature of our individual bodies.
