Hi,
Does anyone have a recipe for the above?
I'd like to make a batch to use as a base for a few different meals, rather than using a pasta sauce or tinned tomatoes.
thanks

Hi Kim
I just made some today which was beautiful! I just cooked mine in a saucepan, but I guess you could do it in a slow cooker very easily. No high heat though as it might burn the tomatoes.
Approx 1 kilo fresh tomatoes, diced, chopped, however you like it
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tbs tomato paste
2 tsp sugar
salt and pepper to taste
fresh basil to taste
Olive oil
To cook in the saucepan:
Heat oil, add garlic and tomato paste
Once heated, and fragrant, add the chopped tomatoes
Season with salt, pepper and sugar
Add basil right at the end
I guess in the slow cooker, you'd throw everything in, cook on a low heat and add the basil about 5 mins before serving.
You could add onions, grated carrots, grated zucchini and mushrooms if you like, we just felt like a good old plain tomato sauce today!
Oh Wow, thank Krystals! I will definitely give that a try. That should work beautifully for a spag bog or a lasagne! :)
you know what? I just made this in the slow cooker- chucked everything in
about a kilo of tomatoes
3 home garlic cloves (STRONG!)
a small brown onion
basil
tomato paste
Smells delish and is working a treat!
Yum krystals, I have never used my slow cooker for tomato sauce. I am going to try it. Sounds like your slow cooker is getting a bit of use lately!
I wish we were having it for dinner tonight *Ash* !! It smells so, so goooood! The SC is getting a fair workout, I can't believe how much time I have now! Hahaha Can you make jam in a slow cooker? If you can, then all these plums can take care of themselves!
Sounds great thanks krystals! I've been after a recipe too...now to grow some tomatoes :D I'm going to try it do you think it would freeze ok? Or should it be bottled?
It'll freeze perfectly willow5! I've made a few batches with the intention of freezing them, but they haven't made it that far! ;)
lol thank you that's great :D
This might seem like a silly question - but do any of you remove the skin from the tomatoes.... or does it break down when you cook it for a long time?
I'm really funny about tomato skin in my sauce and used a sifter type thing to remove them after cooking last time, but Ionly cooked the sauce for 40 mins or so
