18 month old dropped all thier day sleeps?

Has anyone else's 18 month old dropped all thier day sleeps or is this just a phase?

Isaac refuses to sleep during the day and plays quite happily, he's still having his feeds just not going to sleep. In fact feeds have been much less stressful the last week or so, no fussing, he has what he wants then goes back to playing. Come night time, he goes to sleep quickly and easily and sleeps OK most of the night.

OR like today he's soo grumpy all day refuses sleep, then falls asleep really late and wont sleep at bed time when his body clock says sleep. He's obviously tired but he wants to be awake and because of the late nap he. is. wired!

It took 2 hours to get him to sleep tonight because he had a nap in the car at 5pm :doh:

At 18mths that is much too early to drop day sleeps i would fight tooth and nail and do whatever you have to do to get your ds to sleep goodluck

I've tried everything. Lol he's always been hard to settle, the last month was really great then he just stopped sleeping. He wont let me rock/ pat/ sing to him, has never self settled and I'm not interested in CC- wouldn't work for him anyway, he just gets hysterical.

Fighting him just makes him more determined not to sleep and is traumatic for both of us. :(

Oh I hear you on this one! My DS did this for (THANKFULLY) a few days in a row. He was clearly tired, clearly needed a nap but flat out refused. I tried everything, ended up for a few days just having quiet time at nap time infront of the tv watching a few Thomas episodes with him. he just laid on my chest drinking his bottle.The first few days he didnt sleep were a nightmare come dinner/bed time, but after 3 days of that I did the quiet time and it worked fantastic. This week he has gone back to day sleeps, so maybe its just a toddler asserting his indepedence stage? Thats what I put it down to anyway, and today he put took himself to his cot and tried to climb in it - go figure!

most days he doesn't seem even slightly tired until about 4 pm :/ yesterday he was but I think it was because he woke up at six instead of 8 (the one good thing in all of this is he's sleeping a bit later in the morning :dance:).

I'd probably follow his lead..no point struggling for hours with him trying to get him to sleep when it's only going to get you both frustrated and upset. Maybe opt for some quiet time instead if he won't go to sleep? Just lie in a dark room and read some books or listen to music (if he is happy to do that!). Sounds like his little world has just got so busy there is too much to do/learn/look at/play with and sleep just doesn't compare! The MCHN mentioned at H's 18 month check up yesterday that she might start to get more fussy with food, just because right now exploring their world is more attractive to them. I don't see why that couldn't be the same thing with sleep either.
If he is happy to play, then I would let him. If he is having a grumpy day then I'd probably try to get him to sleep, but give it a time limit (so if he isn't asleep by say 2pm, forget about it), just so he isn't going to sleep late in the afternoon and then up half the night.

Thanks ss, that's exactly what we're doing :) I agree, no point stressing about it, just makes it worse. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
