If not breast milk, then what for my 10 month old?

Hi, It seems my 10 month old baby girl is becoming less and less interested in BF during the day. She will still BF first thing in the morning and in the evening, but I think she's meant to have 3 milk feeds a day at this age so i've been giving her a sippy cup of dairy milk before her afternoon nap and again before bed (ok so that's four, but it helps her settle for her sleeps). Anyway, she seems to have developed some eczema and I'm thinking it's a reaction to the dairy. I was advised that I need not start her on formula at this age, but if I don't give her dairy milk what should I give her instead?

If not breastmilk why not EBM?

And if that fails i would say formula.

Cows milk is definitely too harsh for the tummies before 12 months and not recommended at all.

You could look into rice or soy milk but as their main form of food intake up until 12 months should still be milk, formula would be better as higher nutritional value.

Could you express BM for her to have out of a cup?
Also I used to have trouble with CJ's day feeds, he was too busy looking around and getting into stuff to want to stay on the breast - is that maybe what's happening? Have you tried bfing in a quiet, boring room?

Thanks, I think it is that there's too much going on for her to stay on the breast during the day, but this seems to be true even in a quiet boring room, she's a very curious little monkey! I have tried expressing a number of times over the past few months and I really find I don't get enough for her, and to be frank I HATE it. I would rather try something else, so it looks like I will have to give her formula. This is fine, i'm just so confused because I was advised that this is not necessary and that some cows milk is ok after 9 months. Obviously it's not ok for my little one, though. There's so much contradicting advice out there. Does anyone have any thoughts on using cows milk v's goats milk formula?

Hun, the recommendation is not to give cows' milk as a drink before 12 months, but that small quantities on cereal etc are ok. For non-breastfed babies, formula is recommended until 12 months, then cows' milk is ok if tolerated, but no milk is ok too as long as the diet has enough calcium. However, as your DD is still having some breastmilk, you might not need any other milk. 2 feeds a day is on the low side, but she could be drinking quite a bit in those feeds. Does she drink any water as well? I would include some dairy in her diet though, like cheese and yoghurt, to help with the calcium - or to give other high calcium foods.

I would totally avoid goats' milk formula. I have heard leading paediatrians who specialise in infant nutrition talk about how bad it is for infants. It has totally the wrong composition for human consumption.

I am having the same issue with DS atm hun cept he's not feeding properly ever! Too much happening during the day & too sleepy at night. We have resorted to formula at night cos he will not doze off on the bottle as quickly. Have u tried lactose free milk? It's in the long life milk section of the supermarket. This is what I drink & what we use in his porridge etc and he doesn't seem to have any issues with it.
