Goodbye Commodore :(
After reading all the things happening to others DH's just recently, I was relieved nothing has happened to mine.
However. (he's fine by the way)
We bought a 1990's Commodore Wagon (VR, maybe?) about 2 months ago off one of his friends dad, with the intention of pulling off a part (worth more than what we paid for the car - it was unregistered/unroadworthy) for one of DH's Triumph sedans.
DH found that he could easily fix the car, and sell it, making a small profit in the meantime. He spent hours after work (he's a mechanic) working on it, and had it running and all well and good. It drove nicely for a car that old. He and his dad spend Sunday cleaning and polishing it, got about a 3rd of the car looking smick (it was filthy).
Monday, he put the trade plate on from work, drove it to work. Parked it with all the other cars from the workshop up on the road (parallel parked. All legal.) Took the trade plate off, went about his day. He works for a small specialised - mainly English cars - mechanic workshop. He was going to get it roadworthied on Monday too...
10:50am there is a MASSIVE smash. A guy in a 4 door ute "fell asleep at the wheel" and took out 6 cars, including our commodore. :wall:
YEP. SEVEN CARS! DH was in shock, didn't call me for a whole hour!
Picture this:
4door ute takes out -
2 door ute, Landrover Discovery, Triumph Spitfire, Commodore wagon, Landrover Discovery, Landrover Freelander and Nissan Pulsar.
The 2 door ute literally bent in half, the spitfire is a squished small wreckage.
There is surveilance tape on YouTube... look under South St Smash up @ Future Fleet. Timestamp is about 10:50:50. You'll only see the ute take out the other ute, but just how fast was he going! I'll put some pics up on my blog. I'm on blogger, just search for my username (can I put that link in here?)
Goodbye Commodore.:wall:

Whoa! That was crazy! The guy was going so fast when he hit the cars. I'm so glad no one was injured. How injured was the driver, do you know?

The driver got out and sat by the side of the road after the accident. His airbags saved his life.
