Keeping cool in a car with no air conditioning

Another Summer in my car with no air conditioning. I have added a few thingys that have helped to keep me and bub cool.

I have a thermos that i fill with ice cubes and then top with water, it keeps the water icy cold for a couple of days (if it's not all used up).

On hot stinky days, I have face washers that i wet with the icy cold water and wash bubs forehead and give her to suck on. Now she is bigger she can hold her own sippy cup* that i fill with cold water.

When i get back to the car, i open the back hatch door and a few windows to allow the hot air out before putting bub in the car.

Anybody else driving with no air con?


* you have to be careful if you have left these in the car cos the water can get really hot!

We had spray bottles set on a mist spray, with the windows down it was kind of like evaporative cooling :)

I like the spray bottle idea, no air con in my car either.

I have a thick flannelette quilt that I throw over DD's carseat when we get out so we never have to deal with nasty hot buckles.

My gf wets the square terry towelling nappies then when she's about to leave closes them in the window. Make sense? Acts as a sun barrier and it's nice and cool. She'll then open the front windows so the air comes through.

I like the spray bottle idea, I'll have to tell her that one! :)

My sil travels with her 2 dogs with no ac and she has bought two little battery operated car fans that attach to the headrest and still turn like desk fans. I think she got them from a car shop like supercheap auto

it was so hot yesterday when we were driving from ours to noosa (about 45 mins) that the ac was just making the car hotter and humid!! wasnt strong enough! so we had to turn it off and just have the windows open. it was so hot, DD was asleep and we got home after 20 mins and she was ringing wet! youd have to have some good things inplace otherwise it would be so hard. i think fans is a great idea. i think the thermos idea is good...you could give it kid just to hold to keep cool.
