Nursing student and being vaccinated for placements?

For any of the nursing students out there, did you go get fully vaccinated to do your placements if you weren't vaccinated as a kid? And if you did how did you go tolerating all the immunisations/vaccinations?

You have to be fully vaccinated. I had to do a blood screen to check my immunities before they would say what needed to be given; luckily I was completely immune to everything so I needed no vax's. But its best to get started on it ASAP, takes awhile for immunity to build up, my Uni had us doing it in our first week of first semester!

I had to prove immunity to chickenpox and measles, mumps, and rubella, not for uni but to commence work. I had to immunised and prove immunity for hepatitis B for uni.

I'm going to the GP on Thursday. Hopefully they do a blood screen and I am immune to everything too. Otherwise I am not looking forward to having to fit all the jabs in in a short space of time.

it's a requirement to be vaccinated. I had to go get the blood test, I needed a measles mumbs abd Rebella booster, they advice to get the flu vaccine/swine flu vaccine but i didn't get that one.

What if you're pregnant?
It's not something I had thought of but I know my uni says full vax.

for the booster, I actually waited until after I finished breastfeeding. According the the drug preg / breastfeeding book - there is no known issue with the rubella booster, but there is not enough evidence to fully state that matter.

A decision you, your dr and your uni will have to make it you need it xoxox

Vaccination is mandatory for NSW Health nurses working in clinical areas. We are the only country in the world to mandate vaccination for any group of workers. Welcome to the dictatorship... *sigh*

You can fight it if you have the patience, but it's an uphill battle and will end in lots of threats to remove you from clinical areas.

I had to be fully vaccinated before placement. We were told at beginning of semester 1 and placement was near the end of semester two. Gave us heaps of time to get all the vaccinations, and for them to start working....

I have an appointment for Monday to get my blood tests done. I have no idea what I am immune to and am not looking forward to getting heaps of vaccines at once :(

wow! i never had to be vaccinated at all. my workplace offered hep b when i started which i took but thats it. here in SA nothing was ever said about it.

I was never vacc'ed as a kid cos my older sister had reactions to them. I have had chicken pox and measles and I think mumps as diseases so hopefully all that shows up in the blood work. Over the years I have had regular tetnus and stuff. So hopefully I don't need to many jabs!!Knowing my luck I would get reactions to them all if I had to have them, cos the schedule is pretty full on to try to fit them all in in a short space of time. I'm planning not to get the flu vaccine even though it is on our list. Will see tomorrow what the GP says.

I had to get a couple to become fully vaccinated. But it was over 10 years ago so can't remember which ones I had to have.:lol: no reactions though.

so I had my blood test and am immune to chicken pox, MMR and even though I have had my Hep B shots before they didn't take and I didn't show any immunity to it. The GP said that sometimes it happens. So I had another hep B shot just to see if this one works and I also had meningacocyl (sp?). I have to go back for the tetnus booster one and also polio next month. Gosh the taste in my mouth after I had the shots was just disgusting!!!!!

I have had 2 rounds of Hep B vacc and have barely any immunity but a small amount.
MMR I had a vaccine booster 6 months before I conceived DS1 and had low immunity at my bloods!!

Had first lot of Hep B vacc at uni when doing nursing.

Never had flu vacc

I have no immunity to hep A, hep B, so I need those vacs. I also still need to get the Men C and Polio, but I am ok for MMR and presumably chickenpox (having had the disease) but I am still waiting on the test results for that last one.

I had my mantoux results read today and they were very positive (measurement 15mm by 16mm) anyone else had a positive result before and if so what happens now?

I have to go do that test to Traveller. I was thinking about having it as a blood test though instead of the inject under the skin thing only cos my GP doesnt do the actual mantoux test.

Can you get it as a blood test? It's usually specialist testing centers that do the mantoux.
