Hi wondering if anyone can help me.....
I am due to return to work in about 7 weeks after having 12 months maternity leave from my job. I have asked to go back part-time and my boss has told me that my job can't be done on a part-time basis which is the response I was expecting.
He said he would speak with other managers to see if they could find me a part-time role.
My question is, if they can't find me anything am I required to resign or are they required to offer me a redundancy package?

I would think you would be required to resign if they still have your full time position available to you. If they were unable to offer you your current position back, they would have to find you an equivalent position or pay you out.
Not 100%, but pretty sure you will have to resign, as they have offered you back your position full time and you are just not taking it, therefore your position has not been made redundant as it still exists except there is no one fulfilling the role for the moment, itms?
Yep - you would have to resign as your old position is still available to you... Sorry, probably not the answer you were hoping for.
Thanks guys pretty much figured I'd have to resign - kinda glad I left my 8 weeks annual leave sitting there. Tried calling to speak to my boss today but he's out, will try again tomorrow and see if he's had any feedback and any other roles, no use drawing out the inevitable they have someone doing my job who will just continue doing it.
I have backup employment option so not too stressed :)
Things can change in 7 weeks. If you like working there, don't resign yet until the 7 weeks is up. A part time job may still come up in that time. Also. check up with the union on their advice adnd your entitlements.
Have you thought about or suggested a job share situation to your boss? My job also needs to be full time, but when I was returning to work I discussed job share and luckily for me, the woman who had been doing my job whilst I was on maternity leave also wanted to work part time.
Just another idea to put out there, I know there are a lot of other people out there who are after part time work so I am sure you would be able to find someone to job share with.

I was also going to suggest asking your boss about possibly job sharing. We have it at our work- its very popular and usually suits everyone involved- employer and employees.
My boss did suggest job sharing but unfortunately person they have in there needs & wants to work fulltime.
I hated my job before I got pregnant and was on the verge of leaving, having the time away from it I'm looking forward to go back but also at same time I don't want to - if that makes sense, DH is more than happy if I resign and have a career change since he's the one who bares the brunt of my frustrations :D
I still have 3 weeks until I have to give my formal decision in writing.
Got a phone call from my boss on Friday afternoon, they don't have a part-time role for me and I would have to go back fulltime which includes a week a month travelling so I have just written my resignation. It's kind of a relief in some ways :)
