Getting rid of car oil on the driveway

DH, has just changed his car oil when it all leaked on our CEMENT in our carport! ARGHHHHHHHH!!! What can I use to get rid of it? PLease say baking soda and vinegar!!!

I remember trying to get off our driveway, some oil (old and some from a newer leak) a few years back and I read somewhere that kitty litter does wonders and I have to admit it does work. I preferred the white stuff as opposed to the clear crystal stuff - so cheap kitty litter works just fine. I just dumped it on (about 1cm thick) there (from memory) and left it for about an hour or so and then swept it up and put in a bag then the bin. I did it a couple of times as I had some really old stains that I was trying to lift (you can still see where I did it- that patch looks a bit cleaner than the rest)
I don't think I had to do anything else - will see if I can remember where I found the info and check.

clr i think its the heavy duty stuff its in a black bottle from bunnings. if you want to go with the chemical approach. one house we lived in, df had the auto replaced in the drive, big oil and transmition fluid stains, i poured that stuff on, scrubbed it with a old broom, left it for the rest of the day, it rained and was good as new.
as for a non-chemical approach i have no idea sorry.

I was going to say CLR...You could try vinegar and bicarb though :D

right found my book (Fix It by Scott McGregor) with the info in it - has 3 different options

a) kitty litter - I nearly had it right -I think I didn't follow it exactly because it was on the driveway out the front of the house accessible to the street.

try a bag of kitty litter and an old brick. Cover the stain with kitty litter and then grind it into a fine powder with the brick. Let it sit and soak up the oil for a day or two, then sweep it up.

b) commercial driveway or engine degreaser

[If the stain remains,] try a commercial driveway cleaner or even some engine degreaser, but always try these chemicals on a discreet area of your concrete first in case they discolour it.

c) eucalyptus oil

Pour undiluted eucalyptus oil directly onto the stain and let it sit for a while to dissolve the oily marks, before scrubbing the area clean with warm soapy water

(most grease & tyre tracks marks can be removed with driveway cleaning products found in both hardware and motor accessory shops)

hope these help - with the kitty litter I didn't bother to grind it up more and it still worked, it might have been a reason why I needed to re-apply but I also only left it on for a couple of hours too.

I also use sawdust - found this out by accident - just spread it out on the stain and using a stiff broom, broom it in almost like "rubbing" it in.

I recall Dad using good old Dynamo and adding a bit of water and scrubbing with a strong brush (wire or outdoor broom) - massive stains too. Worked a treat!
