Help! Why does my newborns breath & burps smell like rotten egg?

I thought I would ask in her quickly before calling the midwives.

This morning as Lucinda was waking for a feed I noticed an egg smell coming from her mouth. At first I thought I was imagining it and checked her nappy. She had done a small poo but it wasn't that.

Now, each time in between feeds she will do a small burp that smells very much like rotten eggs. I have googled and found that it is fairly common in adults and is something to do with sulfur? But there was no information that I could find for newborns, especially breastfed ones.

Anyone had this with their little ones or have an idea what it might be? I am hoping it is nothing serious. Lucinda doesn't seem bothered by it, she is very alert and has been feeding wonderfully.

She wouldnt have thrush would she maybe?

i remember DD2'a smelt like that or a fart..not sure why but i did disapear

Tonsilitis? Kids can get really bad breath from it.

Or silent... My DD has silent) too, my DD had a sour smelling breath until I got her onto Zantac... Now its sweet milky breath!!

Apparently it is common in formula fed babies but not in breast fed ones. It was put down to her speedy arrival and the mucus etc that she had been vomiting for the first day and a half. The smell seems to have gone away for now, which is great :)
