Some parents and childcare's are just...

:shakehead: From working in childcare to now being a parent of a child in child care, i tell you what i still can not believe the state that some parents send their child in like!

I have managed to keep Miss B from being in childcare for aslong as i could, but due to uni and DH's work etc she is in for 1 day a week, and loves it! so im so glad she is going.

But seriously must parents send their kids to care looking so untidy? and WORSE SICK!!!!! I picked Miss B up last week and 3 kids had digusting snotty noses and horrible horrible barking coughs! Why were they not sent home i ask? but more importantly what parent would send their kid to care when they are sick? i just think that is irresponsible.

And now low and behold, my girl is now sick! was taken to hospy yesterday with temps of 39.5 (after panadol) and today still has high temps and really isn't well at all! Heaven forbid my 3mth old get sick aswell.

I would never want to inflict what she is going through on any other child (and parents). So why do parent's do that?

Sorry rant over! just really upset that some parents are like this! oh and im cranky with the centre also! those children should of been sent home!

have to agree I kept my little one home last week (only go 1 day) as she had been on and off all week but no temp and otherwise fine but didnt want to risk. I try to send them looking tidy but coming home you wouldnt think so

As for untidy - I dressed my son in nice clothes the first day I sent him to CC and he come home with paint stains that didn't wash out so after that I always sent him in his play clothes.

As for sending them in tidy and comming home messy - i kinda like that - i think it means they had a good day, but when i worked in childcare we always cleaned them up before home time! which i think is a nice thing to do!

and everyone don't get me wrong obviously you wouldn't send your child into child care in their "sunday best" but tidy is good!

Grrr it really annoys me when they send them sick!!! Or they take them back too early... like after gastro they don't wait the 24 hours.... Oskar came home Tues from kindy and that night... yup vomiting! I know it was from kindy cos he hadn't left the house since Saturday morning for swimming! Then on Friday when he went the kid sitting next to him for morn tea had bloody yellowish snot! OMG COME ON!! I know we have to pay anyway (although this kindy is good and if you are away they do make up days as long as in the same wk and they have room) and I understand people need to work... so herein lies the problem... EMPLOYERS need to come to the party more so people don't feel scared to stand up and say I HAVE A SICK KID I CAN'T COME IN!

Bottom line... it's not fair on the rest of us who do the right thing!

My child goes to childcare looking very untidy because she insists on dressing herself so sometimes is wearing a dress with a top over the top, plus a pair of shorts and a skirt underneath. It would take me much, much longer than my current tether to dress her tidily.

If they are sick they stay home, but dd1 plays in mud, sand and gets paint everywhere. She has to be in the same clothes as I just can't keep replacing them. Dd2 is marginally better for now so she looks more presentable.

Even when you call parents, they either don't come, or just come in their own time...
I guess some parents just can't afford to take a day off, if they have no sick pay and need to pay for the day at childcare too.
I don't agree with sending sick kids to childcare - I work there and spent most of my year sick thanks to parents sending sick children, but this was the reason most parents give "Oh, he's not too sick, and I don't really have the days up to take off work... but if he was REALLY sick I'd take the day off anyway, but he's happy enough..." etc etc etc

sick children is horrible yes..

but as for untidy, lol you should see my girls. they look feral. They get sent in old clothes because otherwise all their good clothes get ruined and their hair never stay in neat pony tails no matter what i do... honestly in child care it doesn't matter, we were told not to send nice clothes..

It took me a year to work it out but I no longer send DD to childcare in nice clothes. There are always stains I can never seem to get out whether it be food or craft stains. so she may go to CC with stains on her clothes now and sometimes withamop hair do (when I simply have not had time to have the hair battle inthe morning) but my CC workers are lovely and will always do her hair for her on the odd day I havent done it.

I wholeheartedly agree - don't send your kids to daycare sick. It just means the whole centre ends up sick. So far our centre (have only been going sick early Jan) seems to have a very good sick policy. Hand foot & Mouth went round my DD's room a few weeks ago & they were so cautious. My poor LO happened to throw up her bottle the day of the outbreak & they made me come & get her and take her to the Dr to get clearance before she could come back. At the time I thought it was a bit OTT, but in hindsight it sure helped prevent the spread of the infection. My DD has been sick this past week & so she was at home with me (also sick). We both have to go back to the Dr to get clearance before going back this wednesday. Having now had a sick child, I don't know how you could send them off to someone else to look after while they are so up & down. I know there is the cost factor but really, health should come first.

As for clothes, as my DD is only 9mths so she doesn't seem to get too messy. I send her looking presentable, though not in her very best clothes. I'm realistic though and assume that the clothes I send could either come back filthy or not at all!!

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Believe me from the carers side, it is FRUSTRATING - how many times have I heard - oh she's a bit sick but she wanted to come! For us, there are only a limited number of reasons we can send children home - the obvious ones, vomiting, diharrea, conjunctivits, chicken pox, etc. Handbooks say children with runny noses don't need to be excluded - however parents should consider how their child will manage the day if they are unwell. Parents also should consider how icky it is for carers to have to deal with constant snot all day!

i guess parents maybe cant take the day off or cant afford the day off...


id never send me unwell child anywhere....

my kids are always nicely dressed kinder or daycare...always send a change of clothes.....

One of the perks of day care, sick kids. Better get used to it.

On the brighter side, I saw a report somewhere on telly recently that although children do get sick in childcare, those that have been in cc tend to not get sick once they are at school because they have built their immunity up and that it is more benefical then as they aren;t missing school.

Yep = I understand you entirely. We say that if they require one on one care they need to be sent home but parents are so lax at collecting half the time it is not worth the call.

Yep - I agree with this too. Although it sucks to have sick kids it helps them build an immunity and in child care and frequency they go it can take 6-12 months for them to build that immunity. Sam for carers, i remember i was getting sick every second week at the start, bleurgh.

Honestly I wouldnt stay home if I had a simple cold and I wont keep my child home either. I dont expect other parents to. However if they have an infection and it isnt treated - that's not cool.
If they are on antibiotics, we monitor them in terms of continued participation in the program, and need for one on one care, eating, drinking etc.

It sucks but it happens. In the end im glad my son can now go to daycare, hang around sick kids all day and not get sick anymore.

Yep fair enough keep your kids home if they are SERIOUSLY sick BUT kids get sick (colds etc) its a fact of life, and good to build up their immune system!!
As for the 'wiping snotty noses' comment - maybe you need to be in another job. I would make a serious complaint if i heard someone from the kids day care talking like that.
