Brought a new wooden chest of drawers for baby, but cant remove the new smell..

As the title says, i brought a new wooden 6 drawers chest for the babys clothes, i have had the drawers open and the window in the bedroom for weeks now, but when i closed the drawers and the window the next day the room had the camfor wood smell in it, so ive reopend the drawers.

I have put paper in the bottom, for when i put the clothes in there, but just cant rid the new smell.

any suggestions, i still have time before i have to wash the baby clothes, but i thought it would have gone by now..
the clothes i had in there, (still with tags on) had the camfor wood smell in them too even though it was open

For ours we used little potpourri bags, actually they were little cushion like things we got from bigw I think, they helped alot.

I was going to suggest the same as beans :) even just lavender might help :)

Drawer liners?

To remove paint and varnish smel, cut an onion in half and put it in thr room. It's amazing!!

Yip half an onion. Dunno why it works but it does.

ooh i never thought of the potourri bags, might get some tomorrow, i have paper just wrapping paper in the drawer, i did think of sprinkling baby powder, to make it like a drawer liner.

with the onion, do u just put it in the room? or do u have to put it in the drawers as well? id hate to make her room smell like a salad lol

a cut lemon can help absorb smells too (and smells better than onion)

I would just put it in the room for now and see if it helps. If its really strong try half of one in the drawers too.

Is it actual camphor or just smells timber-like?

If it's real camphor wood then you can't get rid of it because it's the natural smell of the wood. The smell is repellant to silverfish and other vermin which is the reason why it's used! Mine still smells and it's 20 years old :)

If it's not and just regular timber, the smell will fade eventually or you will become used to it and won't notice!

Its real wood with varnish, so i am only assuming its camphor it has a more than just timber smell, bought from super amart, i have drawers that are 6 yrs old and they still have the smell, but extreamly mild now compared to what it was like.

I just didnt want the babies clothes to smell like it, as it is still quite a stong smell, i guess illleave the drawers open a bit longer and i might just have to get the potpurri bags then and see how i go
