Hi all,
has anyone used a baby rocker instead of a bassinet? to me it seems small enough to move around the house and even take out of the house, and also sit beside the bed when need be early in the morning and has the extra feature of the music, vibration and rocking. I was going to get both but then found a rocker for a new born that changes into a toddler seat. Is there a reason i cant put baby into the rocker to sleep?
Not sure. I know my newborns wriggled themselves into some pretty awkward positions in the rocker.
The other thing is bedding, could be a pain getting the cover dry after poosplosions, or finding a bedding system that would stay secure and be safe for bub.
They're great for supervised day sleeps, but I'm not sold on nights, and I'm pretty relaxed about these things as parents go...
If you're planning on more than one bub, a cradle or bassinet might not be a bad investment, and there are plenty to be gotten second hand. Otherwise bub could go straight to the cot, but they don't fit through doorways, so not so convenient for moving around.

Rockers are designed for supervised use...there is always the danger that a deeply asleep baby could wriggle into an unusual position and either choke or suffocate. You need a bed/bassinette/cot that meets the Australian standard.
Yeah I am with nelle... Great for day sleeps when they are supervised and not spending long periods of time in there, but overnight it could cause some posture issues and safety issues.
In a bassinet/cot they are flat on their backs which is good for their spines but in a rocker they would be hunched over and curled up.
I'd suggest to get a bassinet or Moses basket or something instead for them to sleep in overnight....
If you want the ease and portability, a Moses Basket is your best bet.
Seed make ace moses baskets with stands a la a bassinet, but you can also buy a straight Moses Basket.
The other thing you need to consider is that the floor is often the draftiest place in your home. Putting a baby to sleep on the floor every night is probably not the most ideal option. Also, the spine of infants needs to be as flat and aligned as possible as the bones of infants are still relatively soft.
HTH :) IMO, a bassinet is worth its weight in gold - they are on wheels, easily movable, the correct and easy height, safe, warm and secure or bubs. They will last until baby is rolling on their own essentially.
I'd strongly advise against it. A friend's DS was napping (supervised luckily) in the rocker one day when the groin harness gave way during his wriggly nap. He was sliding down out the bottom. I wasn't game enough to use one after for naps. If he was unsupervised he could have strangled himself on the lap sash bit. Was a 2 week old rocker with minimum wear an tear too.

thanks for all the advice, i new there was a reason for others not doing it...... i will have a cot as well but was planning on the rocker as a day- easy reach type of thing. But yes i think i will get both, bassinet to sleep in once rocker has calmed and put to sleep.... thanks for all the reply s...
