feels really hot but temp normal???

Am confused with bub's. When I checked on him before I went to bed, he felt really hot to touch but his temp was normal 36.8. so I removed him from his muslin wrap anyway and just had him in a singlet and nappy with a light sheet over him. just checked him again when he woke for a feed and he still feels very hot but his temp was 35.6!! shouldn't he be feeling cool? he doesn't have a rash at all.

i want to wrap him again because his temp is cool but i'm scared that he will overheat! im have been up most the night being paranoid. he is easy to wake and is currently haveing a drink and is not lethargic at all.. even gave a smile when i changed his nappy so he obviously isn't uncomfortable. is this the norm sometimes or should i get him checked?

It sounds like it is hot where you are? So I would think he would be warm to touch just like you or I would be. If he seems alert and had a drink I would wrap him in a light wrap. Just monitor him and if you are really worried ring child maternal health line or pop down to your doc when they open.

I live brissy area and it has been quite warm but it's been warmer than this and he has felt fine.. Humidity is fairly high tho.. Just being a paranoid mumma I think :lol:

i find the best way to see if bubs is hot is to feel their head with my cheek and not my hand!

If he's happy & not lethargic I wouldn't worry too much. It would be normal in this weather for his skin to feel warm but his actual body temp to be normal KWIM?
I tend to dress & wrap according to how their skin feels, so if he feels cool to touch then more layers, if he feels warm, then less.... his body temp tells you that everything's otherwise ok.

ETA - and like Olive said sometimes it's better not to use your hand, I use a kiss on the forehead :)

That's how I realised.. I tend to sneak a kiss when I check on him :lol: He still feels a little warm.. not as hot as before. But he was happy when he woke this morning. He is now back asleep on my bed with just a nappy on.. :)

I kiss too. And I do exactly what FLeur said, but FWIW some kids are just hot kids. Both of my kids have a constant body temp of about 37.1...that's just what they operate at, yet very rarely do they feel 'hot'...it's so individual.
