My baby has a cold :(
Hi all, I know this is probably a total over reaction but I am so sad, my 9 month old DD has a cold. She sounded terrible, wheezy and was coughing all night and couldn't sleep so DH took her to the GP today to be told she has a cold, there is something on her lungs but she is breathing okay and eating/drinking so go away and it will get better on it's own. Boo hoo!!
So we are giving panadol and nurofen like the Dr suggested and using baby balm vicks on her chest and feet. We are also user the humidifier at night with the Nukey Bear stuff.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? The poor thing is happy and playful but then has a coughing fit and turns miserable and sooky. In addition, her nose is like a tap and she's getting a rash from us wiping it. This combined with her bottom teeth coming through and watery eyes from the cold, her whole face is like a constant water pool.
She's also not sleeping well, because she sucks on her fingers to self settle and when she does this, she can't breathe. She is so tired to go back to sleep, she cries harder if we pick her up to cuddle her because she thinks we are getting her up.
If anyone has any suggestions with how to help her cope with her cold, please let me know.
Thanks in advance :)

Awwww, your poor little chook :( sending you a huge
One of the things we do with DD if she gets a cold is nice warm steamy showers so the bathroom is all steamed up and humid kwim? It cleans everything out and no need to wipe the nose for a while :) We also prop the end of her cot up so she isnt flat in bed to help with the coughing.
Wish I had more to offer, but I do hope she is feeling better soon

Poor little poppet :(
Infant saline drops to losen mucus and then use the suction bulb to remove congestion.
Slightly elevating her mattress can help with her breathing.
I hope she is feeling better soon

Oh poor thing. I don't know of anything more you can do - I hope it passes soon.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Loads of cuddles, quiet days at home, and everything your doing. I hope it passes soon xx

I found that the infant saline nasal sprays worked the best - it's unpleasant for them for a few seconds, but seems to get "up there" better than the drops.
And, I recently found that Brauers have released a "stuffy nose relief" that can be used from 6 months. I used it on my DD (she was 21 months) and I found it helped - whether it was that, or a combination of everything I can't be exactly sure. But it certainly did no harm.
Other than that, can you raise her head end of the bed a few cms?
Hope she's feeling better soon! :)

Thanks so much ladies :)
Sarah - we are using fess spray, is that what you mean?
Rb, Ld and Sarah - we've still got the cot raised from the last time she had a bit of a runny nose so hopefully she isn't just used to it.
Thanks so much, I feel like an over reacting Mum but she's just soooo sad, it breaks my heart.
