Fighting over night time nappy

Hi all,

DD was toilet trained during the day about a month ago for the day time.
Until last night she was OK to wear nappies during the night as 50% of the time her night nappy would be wet (she drinks a bottle at night which i cannot seem to wean her off)

Anyway, last night we struggled for over 1 hr trying to put a nappy on for her at night. She absolutely refused saying nappies are for babies and she would rip them off as soon as i put it on for her.

In the end, i gave up and put an extra mattress protector down for her.

About 3 am she wet the bed.

So what should i do from here? let her always wet the bed? or force a nappy on for her?

Training pants worked well for us - OK so DS is well skinny and there was a bit of leakage, but only with the cloth ones. The disposable ones were fitted a bit tighter.

Maybe say that night-time bottles are for babies too, so she will wear a nappy until she doesn't need a night-time bottle, that way she's not having a big drink just before bedtime? Something that worked for a friend with a deep sleeper (Liebs would wake up at 3am shouting that he needed the loo rather than wet the bed) is she would walk her daughter to the loo when she went to bed, then walk her back to bed - the daughter remembered nothing and slept through the wee, but no accidents.

DS1 refuses to wear nappies at night but still wets about a third of the time, he just doesn't wake up when he needs to go. I kept him in nappy pants as long as he would put them on, but he flat out refuses now.
We have found that if we take him to the toilet just before we go to bed then he is dry in the morning. Somehow he will stand there seemingly asleep and do a wee, and he doesn't remember in the morning. If you know that she is making it till around 3 then taking her for a toilet stop sometime during the night may work for you too.

ETA, we have also found that making sure he doesn't have anything else to drink after dinner works, but some nights he still really wants his cup of milk.

While TT our ds, we used those Dry nights Pyjama pants (ds also refused to wear a nappy). We called them "night time undies", he was fine with that. He only used them for a few months and then eventually he started to get out of bed on his own at night and go to the toilet. Now he is out of the "night time undies" and always wants to go to bed without any pants at all :) He hasn't had one accident yet and he still has a cup of milk with story time right before bed (this is part of his night time routine), but we make sure he goes to the toilet before bed.

p.s - to get our ds off his night time bottle, we told him there were no clean bottles and he had to use a cup instead. He was surprisingly ok with this (he was very reliant on his bottle to fall asleep) and hasn't asked for his bottle since.

I wouldn't force a nappy, maybe get some training pants and sew or just pad out with a a booster or whatever (when I got desperate, I used a washer!). That way she's wearing undies, but you've also got that little bit of protection too. My son is three, but there's still a protector on his bed, jic. HTH xx

we tried the pull ups and told DD that they were "night knickers" it worked for a week, but then she didn't want them either. So at the moment, we tend to just put them on her when she's asleep. And it doesn't seem to bother her in the morning that she's wearing them. I do need to work on getting her dry at night soon though.

My daughter doesn't want to wear nappy at night either since the second daughter was born 2 months ago. Similarly, she says she's not a "baby", it's her little sister that's a baby. But we talked firmly with her and told her that she will wear it until for 1 full week there's no wee in the nappy. So now when she wakes up, the first thing she does is remove her nappy, throw it in the bin and wear her pantie (she's toilet trained for the day) so that we won't "discover" anything!

DD doesnt wear nappies anymore. I decided not to fight her desire so I put a mattress protector down, makes sure she goes wee wee before bed time and during the night when she needs to go she wriggles around

no accidents yet for a week =)

Fingers crossed it keeps up! My DD2 flat refused to wear a nappy to bed once she became day trained, but she still needed one at night so I would put it on her once she was asleep. In the morning she never seemed terribly worried about it so that worked for us for a while. If getting her off the dink bottle at night is hard, I'd only put maybe 1-2 mouthfuls at most in there and tell her once it's gone she can't have any more till morning and it might help her realise she doesn't really need it.
