Moving Up Rooms at Childcare

DS will be 2 in about 6 weeks and is due to move from the Baby room to the Pre-Kindy room on April 25th.

I shed a tear when I found out, I know he'll be fine, he's so little though (literally, he is tinier than my friends kids who are all about 18mo) and I guess my main worry is he will get knocked around by the bigger toddlers, but I think he's ready developmentally, his speech is about average, he understands EVERYTHING and is a pretty chilled out little guy. I think I also like the routine of the baby room, whereas its quite different to the pre-kindy room, but I dont want to hold him back, I know he will love it and already knows all the carers.

Maybe its just me that isn't ready :ROFL:

Did anyone else go through feelings like this or am I being a bit OTT?

No, I didn't feel that way about DD moving up, I think I thought about her being so small and everything but in the Baby room, they were all really young babies - like under six months, so DD was the oldest and really needed to go up to the next room. After that first move I was fine with he progressing to the next & the next after that.

With our CC they started moving the kids into the next room up for an hour or 2 whenever they had time - eg when the smaller kids were sleeping etc. It's sorta scary, but he'll love the challenge! :hug:

DD2 is in transition to the next room and she has only been at the centre for 2 months. She is now the oldest in the current room and will be one of the youngest in the next room but they have a spot and asked me if they could move her across. She will find the next room much more stimulating and will flourish but I did have a little pang of sadness because she is only now used to everyone and doesn't cry when I leave. She is apparently doing really well in the other room during the day. As for getting pushed around by the bigger toddlers, she has a 3 year old sister and fights dirty so I'm hoping she won't get herself into any trouble :lol:

I hope your DS likes his new room. I find that the carers look out for the smaller and more sensitive bubbies so he should be ok.

Pie moved up a couple of months ago. They did it over two weeks, and she was fine, she did revert back to a little bit of clinginess in the morning but through the day she loved it (and it wasn't every morning just the odd one here & there).
Carers tend to move them up when they think they are ready, I am sure he'll be fine :) - it might be you that isn't ready, I was a bit like that, it really brought home how much she was growing up :hug:

Carol moved to the "big room" at the begining of this year and like you I was a bit worried because she is so small but she has gravitated to the gentler kids and plays with them rather than the rough ones Im sure your boy will probably do the same
