Tongue tie causing speech development probs?

DS has a tongue tie, I pointed it out to the MW on day 6 (first visit at home) who said it was pretty substantial but as it wasnt hindering our BFing to wait and see and poke our tongues out at him a lot (so he would copy and it would stretch)

DS is now almost 2 and a half, he has a lot of words, has just recently started stringing together 2-4 word sentences, but he seems to have trouble with quite a few sounds, for instance he says "gook" for look, and a few others.

My question is, how do you know if its TT related? I have been trying to nut it out in my head as to what sounds or words it would affect, but its doing my head in!

I know I should just take him to the MCHN and I probably will, I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this?

Because words such as 'Look' involve the tongue touching the upper mouth, I would be inclined to think that perhaps the tongue tie is possibly a problem for your DS's speech. The MCHN or a speech therapist would have a better idea though.

It is not uncommon for children his age to have difficulty with some consonant sounds, so of course, it could well be just part of his normal speech development. However my brother has a severe tongue-tie and this did affect his speech (had a bit of a lisp and ongoing difficulties with some sounds, rectified by speech therapy when he was 6 or 7). So I'd say it'd be worth chatting to a speech path about it just to be sure. HTH
