Is this rude?
Well some of you might know I'm currently looking at starting my own business (have a name now thanks to Onyx ;)) and I was thinking that if someone (mum, family, so on) asks me what I want for B'day/Christmas/etc that I would give them a list of things for my business I still need to get.
There would be things for only a few dollars upwards. Would this be rude? I would just rather something that will go towards my goal rather than more "stuff". :D
Would you be offended?
-
great idea, If you told me that I would be so happy. It would mean I wouldnt have to stress over what to get someone, and I would kjnow its a gift you would really need.
-
I definitely wouldn't be offended - I'd rather know I'm getting you something that you need and will actually use and enjoy! I have such difficulty with gifts, I always worry it'll be totally crap and essentially a waste of money because they won't like it. If they're asking you, they obviously want an answer so I don't think it's rude to give them one :)
-
nope i wouldnt be offended.
wouldnt it b great to have a gift registry for ur birthday for those that want to buy gifts lol.
-
Nope not at all I do same, have asked my parents to buy me a peadiatric stethoscope for uni for mine as I need it anyway!
-
No Way! That's wonderful... If they are asking you what you want, they are open to ideas! They know that their gift could be contributing to your future. I think that's just great.
-
Hmm then why do I feel so funny about it? I've never been someone to ask for anything really, usually if someone asks I say "oh you don't have to get me anything". Feels very strange asking for something!
-
Not at all rude and no way would i be offended, i love it when somebody tells me what they would like as i am hopeless at buying gifts for people.
-
Maybe you feel funny about it because if you mention it then it feels like you're expecting them to get you something? That's how I always feel if I try and steer the direction of gift buying for me, but it beats getting something that is nothing like what you want or would find useful.
I don't think it's being rude at all.
-
just make sure they keep the receipts for tax!
-
No I don't think it would be rude. If they ask, then they probably genuinely want to know what you need.
-
I'd be happy!! Just tell them it's a "suggestion" and then they can't be offended right?
-
I wouldn't be offended... They've asked you what you want... And that's what you want!
-
Not at all!!! I hate buying useless stuff and would love to know what i bought was actually something that was really needed!!
-
We have been doing this for years.
Sometimes I have an idea of the area I want to give them then ask them for suggestions. If you have a few suggestions it is still a surprise.
I would prefer a gift that I need than something given because it's the thing to do
