Auditory Processing Disorder
Ok, so we have some small leads.. Glenn (not Evan this time lol) had his appointment with the pead today. He thinks that APD could be the issue for him. BUT said he also didn't want to rule out Asperges just yet.
He wants me to get the school to do a cognitive & academic assessment to rule out any other causes for Glenns issues.
But he said from watching & interacting with him & from what I described as "Glenn" he said he is concerned that Glenn is not understanding all that is said to him. He said it is either that he is blocking it out on purpose OR there is a block in his brain not getting through.
It was kinda cute in a stood out concerning way... He got Glenn to do a few things, like hop on one leg, now the other, which he did fine (well banged into the wall while doing it, but he is a clumsy kid) but then he asked him to walk on the edge of his feet to the door. He got Glenn to look at his feet to see how he meant (so he was standing on the outer edge of his foot kwim?) & then directed him to walk to the door like that. Glenn, watched, looked at the Dr's feet & then proceeded to walk backwards to the door & then stood on the edge of his feet....
Other things during the appointment also, like having to be asked more then once to come sit up on the table thing. Or simply getting his attention etc.
Glenn also has a poor memory, has trouble remembering peoples names, he acts coy (not shy as such but yeah coy is the best way I can describe it) if he sees another child from school at the shops or something. There is one little boy who always seems to be at teh shop with hi smum when we are after school, picking up bits & bobs as you do. This little kid will excitedly run up & say HI GLENN!! & Glenn will respond with a little smile & wave. But when I asked (at least 3 or 4 times this has happened over the last month) GLenn doesn't remember the other boys name. But the way the boy gets excited to see Glenn tells me they do know each other from class & maybe even play together. But yeah Glenn doesn't seem to remember his name. His teacher said its the same in class also, Glenn doesn't respond to his own name or instructions to the class as a whole nor does he remember any of the other kids names.
He said it could be that he is hearing it & choosing to ignore it OR he isn't processing it. His hearing is fine. I have had that tested a few times now (as recently as Nov last year).
So yeah, Dr said he will talk to me more when I go back in a fortnight with Evan. But in the mean time try & get the school to fast track their assessments.
So can anyone tell me any more about APD?
