So we need new ones. Like, today.
The kettle doesn't turn off any longer and leaks, and the toaster just dries things out on one side and burns the other.
I do not want to buy $20 cheapies from KMart, and DH is insisting on a Stainless Steel kettle (he has this thing about heating plastic...) but no desire to spend $100s on KA toasters etc.
So what toaster/kettle do you have, how much does it cost? TIA!
We have a Sunbeam toaster... the retro looking one in chrome/stainless steel and black sides... it's been going strong since 1998 (it replaced a very similar looking second hand one that my mum gave me... she got that one as a wedding gift in 1966... so that's two toasters in 2 generations!!!). not sure if they are still available. It wasn't too exxy.
We've always had stove top kettles in high gauge stainless steel. In 17 years DH and I have only had two kettles that have been used about 4 times a day. The first one was a Sizzler (German made, cost $180 back in 1994 but it lasted for 16 years) and recently that was replaced by our current Esteele one that cost $60 from Peters of Kensington. I like the sound of an old fashioned whistle. They don't turn off by themselves but i don't like that feature anyhow. I find stove tops boil faster and yes... i hate plasticy kettles!
I'd check out Peters of Kensington. Excellent website... very prompt and reliable... I buy lots from them. They have the top brands at reduced prices... and no i don't have shares in them! LOL
I have an Ikon Quiet Boil kettle by Breville, think it cost around $100 over a year ago. Truthfully I'm not happy with it anymore. Everyone comments on how loud it is :lol: plus it takes absolute ages to boil. I'm going to get one that stays hot so I can boil it before Moo goes to sleep & still have a hot cuppa!
We don't have a stainless steel toaster, but our kettle is and it's a good one. It's a Russell Hobbs, we bought it from Target a few years back for about $30 (I refuse to spend a lot of money on these things!) I just checked it out on ebay and they're now selling for $44. It's quick, quiet and nice.
I love my Da Vinci kettle :) It has a temperature knob on it so I can control how hot I want it to boil to and also a keep warm function, I like the fact I can see the water level as well as it has the water level on the side. I have seen one of the more common brands make one like this now, just can't remember.

I have a stove top kettle. I think I got it from Peters of Kensington but it might have been Victoria's Basement.
Elements suck, they always burn out and they get scale on them so I prefer stove top kettles. A good one will last you as long as 5 electric kettles.
I like the whistle, it adds an element of urgency to the making of hot beverages which makes makes my days seem little more exciting and dangerous :cool:
Toaster is a Breville. It's ok. It makes bread into toast so it fullfills its raison d'etre.

I have an esteele kettle, too. It's red, (because of that it boils faster, ya know...) I bought it on Tuesday and I LOVE it. I have been thru ALOT of cheapie stove top ones, and when I got given some birthday cash I went out and bought Estelle, The Esteele (i've been pining for ages) which will hopefully be my last kettle ever. The water boils super fast too, even when the gas is on low and the smallest burner. PLUS, you don' thave cords hanging around your bench all the time, i frikken hate that.
Toaster I have a cheapie from Big W... but I might replace that soon on my quest of replacing our cheap items for good quality ones that last ;) (mind you for now there isn't anything wrong with it, apart from the fact it doesn't match the rest of the appliances i'm collecting... vain much?

Totally didn't even think of a stove top kettle, we had one when I was a kid and I always loved the sound, looks comforting sitting on the stove too :)

Yep, I don't like cords and benchtop clutter... I like the look of a shiny kettle on a stovetop... Plus if there is a blackout (if you have gas) you can still use it.
I agree with the stovetop kettle, and they look so pretty....hubby doesn't like ours, it doesn't heat up quick enough but pfffft to him. I also have a coffee machine that I lurve also.
As for the toaster :hide: mine is a KA toaster :hide: it's so blue & pretty :D
I've just been looking at toasters, i wanted an almond one... i called a few places and apparently they're not making the toasters anymore. And all KA are stocking are the red blue and tangerine ones, until they sell them I guess?:

We have on of those Quick Cup 'kettles'. A cup of boiling hot water in 3 secs (approx...but that is how it is advertised) and honestly, we're never intending to go back to a normal kettle. Love love love it.
Also, we have a very small place and it hardly takes up any room. Bonus.
Toaster...wrong person to ask. I eat bread so seldom that I dont even know what brand we have LOL.
PS: The Quick Cup has a built in filter too so it doesn't lime up or anything.

Keep away from the Morphy Richards electric kettles ... i paid over $100 for mine and it rusted around the top of the kettle within the first few weeks of usage :shakehead:
I miss my stove top kettle that i had for years, they do give that lovely comfy feel especially in the Winter when you pop the kettle on .. kinda makes you look forward to that cuppa even more :D
My Breville 4 slices toaster is awesome, my sis and exMIL have the same one ... i bought it back about 5years ago (for $45 on special), im sure you can still get em !
We have sunbeam cafe series. A little exy but awesome, and my theory is why keep paying for cheapies every year or so when you can pay a couple of hundred on something that will last :D
