Smelly vagina in 6 week old? Help???

DH was changing DDs nappy yesterday when she had done a wee, and he noticed that it looked like she had some (what looked like) clear discharge that was sitting in the lips of her vagina. On the nappy at the time it was colorless, but when wiped, you could see a colour difference between the wipe and discharge, and it also has/had an offensive odour.

We said we'd keep an eye on it, and see a doc Monday if it hasn't gone away, but I noticed it again when I changed an only wet nappy just now (doesn't seem to be there with pooey nappies, or maybe it's just hidden with the poo?) except this time when I changed her nappy, there was a streak of obviously colored discharge on her nappy, it seemed to be yellowish/greenish, and again has an offensive odour?

I have no idea what this could be? it doesn't SEEM to be affecting DD yet? She is still her happy self and it doesn't hurt her to wipe inside her vag (lips) when I change her nappy but I know it's not normal...

Any clues? We will see a doc tomorrow if it's not gone, but just meantime?

How old is she? (sorry can see sigs etc on my phone) It is normal for newborn girls to have a discharge if its clear or sometime pink/red. But the fact you described green and the smell might indicate something else. So good you are getting it checked out.

DD has this atm,although not smelly...or green....so not the same really :redface: but the MW said its normal for them to have 'mucusy discharge' for a few weeks, def get it checked out, the smell makes me think its somthing that should be looked at!

My DD is 6 weeks old tomorrow if it helps.. We just changed her wet nappy again just now, and there was discharge but it was clear again, but it still smelt funny :/

Thrush?

I would say possibly thrush too. My DD has had it a few times, once whne she was tiny and the symptoms sound similar. I would go to the GP. You will need to get some cream to treat it, or you can use natural yogurt and/or gentian violet/garlic but you would have to ask if those sorts of natural methods are suitable for a newborn.

Well we will be seeing a doc first thing tomorrow, so let's hope it's thrush and not a UTI :/

We saw the doctor today, and there wasn't any discharge, and he had a look and said it didn't seem like thrush, so she's being tested for a UTI as her wee is very smelly and she *seems* to be crying when she wees, as though it's hurting her.
Which is odd, because she never cries really unless she's hungry and it seems to be a painful cry. And we say it's when shes weeing because straight after we can smell the wee again.
So we got a thingy to try catch her wee and we drop it off then wait for the results...

My poor baby... I hope she doesn't have a UTI! :(
