Heart palpitations?
I am currently 16 wks preg and I have being feeling fine up until today. I have being what I can only explain as heart palpitations. Whenever I am doing things I feel like my heart is skipping a beat. I have never experienced this in my two previous pregnancies. Has anyone else had this problem?

It can happen. Any thyroid issues? It's probably best to get onto your GP to get it checked out just in case.

Hi zap,
I had this exact thing happen when I was pregnant last year, from about 21 wks - on & off throughout the day for the rest of my pregnancy.
It wasn't painful, but very uncomfortable. I was checked by the Ob, my GP & also spent a day in hospy being monitored, they couldn't find anything of concern, only that my heart rate would get high when I had a palpitation (over 100). They said it was due to the increased blood flow in my body, and my heart working harder to pump it around. I just had to put up with it. My personal opinion is that it was bought on by stress, physical & mental.
I would definitely get it checked by a Dr to rule out any problems, and if nothing is found perhaps try some relaxation techniques. Sorry I can't be more help for you, it really was an unpleasant sensation :(

Hey Zap,
I'm actually getting that at the moment too. I saw my ob yesterday and he said it does depend on many things. First he checked my blood pressure so get yours done too, could be stress, any sudden movenments can cause a quickening in the heart, heat (so hot in Brissy so think it is that) and generally can be your heart pushing harder because of the extra blood volume being circulated cos of bub.
But to be certain check with your GP. What helps me settle it is when I sit in the air con for a few minutes and icy water drink.x

Yep, get it checked out to be safe, although I have heard of it happening from others.
i don't have that, but I can hear my heart beating/pounding through my ears/head, nearly all the time. That started a couple of weeks ago, makes it hard to get to sleep! But my blood pressure is normal.
So I think extra blood flow etc can definitely cause different symptoms, but always best to have it checked out.

As the others have said, definitely get it checked out - I have this now - I have only had it with this pg and my first, both of which are girls, which is bizarre - both boys I had no issues. I was sent for an ultrasound of my heart about 2 months ago I guess? And it showed that I have a murmur, which I knew, and that it's just fluttering a bit sometimes because of the 30% more blood going through it, combined with the hormones and the heart being squashed upwards with all the other organs. They keep a close eye on me though - I was already a high risk patient, so I have been getting checked for everything weekly.
Chances are it's the same kind of thing - more blood going through, hormones, squished organs. I get dizzy spells with mine too. But best to mention it to your doc and see what they think :)

Thanks ladies. Has only happened once so far but will be mentioning it at next app.

I have exactly the same thing and have had it since the second I conceived! This is my 4th pregnancy and first time carrying a girl, so my GP and Midwife put it down to hormones (extra oestrogen). They said it should go away after she is born and my hormones settle down again.

They are back again today. I really am starting to think this one is a girl. Everything is so different from the palpitations to the way I am carrying, sex drive is down and my mood is completely different! Only time will tell!

The only times I had something like heart palpitations this pregnancy was between 18 and 19wks, felt like my heart would skip a beat every now and then when Little Miss kicked me... got checked out at the 19wk scan and it turned out it was actually her kicking me really hard with both feet up behind my ribs and lungs and forcing everything to hit my heart at the same time.
Definately a good idea to get it checked out though :)
I hear you on the sex drive being down too lol, couldn't get enough with DS and this pregnancy I just can't be bothered and don't have the inclination to do anything lol and my mood has been completely different too, I was definately much more sedate and laid back with DS than I am now.
