Cloth nappies- recommendations and advice please!! :)

Hi!

I would love to use cloth nappies once this baby arrives.. but since im a complete newbie to this whole baby thing I have no idea what ones to use!

I live in Cairns and we dont have many baby stores here... i cant even seem to find any normal cloth nappies.. like the white square cloth ones my mum used to use!
I have done a little research on the internet and have seen some pretty good mcn's i think they're called but theirs just so many It all gets a bit overwhelming!

Can anyone please suggest a couple of brands they recommend and how many I wld need to buy to get started etc. I would love for them to be as simple as possible (Im sure you can tell from my post the simpler the better! :) ) I also dont want to spend a lot of money on them.. if thats possible!

Any info would be greatly appreciated! I feel so silly having to ask such simple questions!

You should be able to find terry flats in Big W I think? I really love itti bitti nappies. Maybe have a look at nurture nappies or the Australian nappy network they may have some starter packs or links.

Baby beehinds have a good reputation and currently have a sale also. I love the petities. I personally don't like Terry flats but alot of people do.

nurture nappies and babybeehinds are from Cairns aren't they?

I love Bubblebubs, BubbaMoo nappies, bumcheeks...ummm but I haven't had a newborn for a while.

Fitteds and a cover are good for newborns.
Mazalicious covers can't be beaten and I really like spunkybutts fitteds.

Do you sew? Fitted nappies or pockets (which include a waterproof layer) are quite easy to make. You can find free patterns online (or make your own) and there are sites that sell all the materials you need.

If you're buying mcns, get a few different kinds - they vary a bit in size/style and different ones will suit different babies. For eg, with my DS, the wide-crotch styles (like BumGenious and Green Kids) suited him quite well, but my DD has fatter legs and the narrow crotch ones (like itty bitty for eg) work better for her.

I like pockets as they're easy to use - only 1 piece, not nappy + cover - but come apart so they dry quicker. However, very young babies can poo a lot so you need lots of nappies. We used the old terry cloth ones for DS for this reason - much cheaper. DD doesn't poo so much, so we've been in fitteds & pockets.

Itti bittis or BabyBeeHinds are a good place to start.

Also, check out the facebook page "buy & sell your mcns" You can see what people are using and maybe grab a couple of cheapies to try before you decide whether or not you like them.

My little girl is in a terry flat right now, but we've got a bit of everything in our stash.

Kim mentioned Spunky Butts fitteds with maz covers - they are a brilliant combo, and the Spunky Butts seem to fit well forEVER.

A few brands to look at: Bambooty, Bonnibuns and Cuddlebots. They are my favs. Hope this helps!

DD has a peapods on right now - she's only 6 days old and the nappy is massive! Itti Bitti fit her well, as well as the baby beehinds petite

Oh what would i do without u girls!! Have been busy for the last couple hrs checking out all the websites! There are some really gorgeous nappies out there :) Im a bit sad we havent found out what we are having so I cld buy either boy or girl ones. Theres quite a few that are unisex tho.. Im sure I wont have a problem choosing some!
Some are quite exxy so I might just find a couple brands i like and get one or two of each to start with... I really think I cld go crazy with this whole MCN thing!
