Birthday getaway... Any ideas??

Since I have too many people in my life that don't speak to each other, having a party for my 30th would be difficult, as I wouldn't feel comfortable inviting everyone I love.. So instead, I decided that I would go away with Mum, rather than do nothing.. So, we are wondering about Darwin.. My B'day is beginning of July, so it's COLD and I HATE the cold..

So, this is the go: We are not real explorers, so no scheduled trips.. If it was hot, I would be happy to go to a hotel with a pool and a bar :)

Does anyone have any ideas on where we could go that wouldn't cost much? I probably only want to spend $800 on flights and accom if we can get away with it..

Have you looked at cruises? There are some really cheap cruises on the P&O website.

Victoria will be too bloody cold!!!! Yeah, I thought of a cruise, but it's just a weekend thing. Do they even do w'end cruises?

Overseas is out of the Question because it's a PITA for Mum to get her passport, as she has to get an english one.. Plus it's an extra cost of a couple of hundred..

Hamilton Island, sounds good.. I used to live in Airlie Beach :) Will it be hot that time of the year?

What about a weekend retreat/spa? A nice little road trip to get there maybe?
There is the Binna Burra Loadge in the Gold Coast Hinterland? (never been there, but would love to go) Mouses House, Secrets on the lake. If you google for Montville Accommodation (with the usual dot com dot au afterwards) you can find a website that has a list of places up there. would be cold though in winter...

Everywhere is cold in July!!! Thanks for your suggestions.. I'll have a chat with Mum.. Hamilton Island is quite exxy, and as I'll be going with Mum, we wont be hitting nite clubs.

Maybe a weekend retreat? Mum is in NSW so she would still have to fly up here.. I'll do some more research :)

I used to live on Hamilton Island and just got back from a holiday there 2 weeks ago. The HIE 'resort' options are quite expensive and they are the only ones advertised BUT there are other options, tips and tricks to keep the cost down for sure and still have the same holiday! Also Virgin Vlue have some awesome packages for Hammo on special at the moment including flights & accom.. Give me a pm if you want more info, on my phone at the moment ;) x
