DD is 12 days old. today she projectile vomited twice. entire BF came back up in a very impressive style! i didnt put this in the medical section as i wouldnt say she was ill, not even off colour really, happy when awake, even before and after vomiting. and the second time she was almost asleep....vomited....fell asleep happily!:o
why...why do they vomit like that?????
No idea, but it's pretty amazing isn't it?! And largely they seem completely unfazed. I know it would certainly upset me to chuck like that! Guess it's just that the reflex is strong and the diaphragm contracts really hard, just like when we chuck. But because all their other muscles are relaxed and they're not fighting it, it just comes right out! I think the sphincter above the stomach is under-developed at that age too so there's even less resistance.
DD was a happy chucker. Big spews daily until about 6 months. One night she was asleep in her bassinet post-feed and I was just dozing off. I heard her do a funny sounding cough and thought 'oh no, I hope that's not...' grabbed a rag and lunged but I was too late. Turned just in time to see this amazing arc of milk come up, out of her mouth, over the edge of the bassinet and fountain perfectly into my underwear drawer which I had foolishly left open!! Ewwww spewy undies and bras!
Milly hasn't done this (yet), she tends to just dribble it out, but she's a projectile pooer :lol: Got me in spectacular fashion the other day - none on herself or her change mat, just all on me!

I thought it was to make more washing. DD did this when she was 4 weeks old. We were at my parents place staying in a caravan and had the clean clothes on the spare area.
She got the lot :)
Happy as a lark afterwards so thought it was just something some kids did for the fun of it :)
They are both hilarious stories!!!! what a shot getting it out the bassinet and into your drawer!!! atleast i only had to wash one bra (being the one she chucked up into) not an entire drawer full!! :) :)
and teni: DD2 did this this other day, luckily i was only just taking the nappy off and managed to catch it in the nappy, im sorry but im laughing at the thought of you standing there, making cute faces at your beautiful daughter, hearing a wierd noise, looking down and seeing poo flying out at you and covering you .....:rofl:.....sorry :)

Sorry, I know this is not quite the point of your post but I just thought of another one...
When DD was about 4 weeks old, DH and I were sitting with her on the couch. She'd been sleeping well (that changed!), feeding better after a rough start and having the 2 of us at home, we were generally feeling on top of things. Basking in that glow of new parents, we looked at eachother and our beautiful DD and I said something along the lines of "this is perfect! People say the first weeks are so hard but how easy and wonderful is this?". DD looked up at me, gurgled her apparent agreement and then projectile spewed across my face, in my hair, and it then ran into my cleavage and down my top. Then the doorbell rang - unannounced visitors! Well I certainly looked the picture of parenting bliss when I greeted them!
i dont think my post had a point really... :) its just good to know im not the only one to get covered in half digested milk for no apparent reason!! other than the amusement of our angelic children!! :rofl:

Ahh where is that video camera when you need it. Would have been a winner on Funniest Home Videos for sure.
The projectiles didn't happen that often for us but boy were they good when they did. And how unfazed are they when it happens!
I only just realised we are past this! :lol:
I used to have a cloth nappy with me or on me for every feed. If she was still feeding it would go all over me & I'd have to completely change.
She shot it over my shoulder (sitting on my lap) & almost got DH in the back of his head one night ;)
